S4 Trans will not kick down
Hey guys. Pardon my ignorance on the Roger-box cars. I'm used to the GT's.
I've been working on Brian's car (Camboinc) installing the supercharger et al. I also fixed his rear flex plate. In this process I dropped the trans and re-installed it.
Now, when in D, the trans will not drop gear. It starts out fine and shifts fine. But when I step on it, nothing happens. It just holds gear (usually 4th).
It holds vacuum (5 inHg) and I can hear the solenoid clicking when I depress the kickdown switch. I didn't adjust the bowden cable, mostly because don't know how to - but also, I don't think I should have to, should I?
Any other things I should look at? Everything else seems fine. It shifts good manually, but I need to get this kickdown working.

I think that you may have to check to see if the bowden cable has become disconnected from the lever in the trans.
To check remove the cable ball from the quadrant, and then pull on it if it feels like the cable moves out and then has some spring back then it should be good .
Otherwise if the cable wont move then you may have gotten it jammed or the end at the trans has slipped out of its hole.
To fix the cable at the hole jack up the car have a pan handy if it might leak some fluid, it wont be much, twist the housing in the trans and slide it out.
With the ball end off at the other end you should be able to get a bit of free cable and the slide the hook into the opening to grab the lever.
With a helper have them pull the ball to help pull the housing back into the trans, if there is resistance thenit could indicate a bent cable

This is WAY too funny. I just realized what you're talking about. That's the problem - the cable is off the lever. We didn't know what that thing was for. We tried our best to connect it, but probably messedup - and the reason why is my helpers and I all own 5-speeds. I seem to recall someone saying, "Not my car..." (Sorry Brian)
Thanks Stan. You're the man!
