Default painted lens

Does anyone remember a thread in which painting the orange portion of the taillite lenses was discussed. I think i remember someone using testors red paint and it coming out looking real good. I cant find it in search.

Yup, a number of us have done it. Use "Candy Apple" red enamel, Testors is a good brand in most hobby shops. I masked the lens leaving only the orange section uncovered. About three light coats (use the other lens to compare the color). While the first dries, mask the second light assembly and paint using the first lens as the color comparison. The first time I did mine they became dull, almost flat finish. Re-did them with a clear topcoat. Now a year later they still shine like the rest of the lens.

Thanks Jim....so, do i understand that you didnt repaint the stock red portion of the lens....only the orange?....it looks really good....my car is silver metalic.

You can also make the amber top of the lens in a contrasting smoked color. This makes the car's butt look a bit wider, but unlike your girlfriend or wife, the shark won't complain.

I did this a few years ago with tinting film - which is temporary - but intend to redo it at some point with Testors window tinting paint.
