Thanks guys. I'll be keeping all this in mind. I've gotta get some pics of the dash and pod i do have to see what you all think. They may be salvageable. Like i said, i'm considering overlays, but don't know a lot about them, what they cover, etc.

+1 to Karl too. :P After getting this thing home and looking and thinking about it, i was starting to lose a little confidence in my sanity.

The body is in good shape, which is the only thing i can't fix on my own. That was the selling point. I'm thinking if i can get my hands on a whole new harness that may be the best way to go. Tracking down all those wires is intimidating.

Firemed, i am in Florida! Gulf Coast over by Ocala/Gainesville. I do need a center console. That got torched pretty good. Surprisingly the A/C module has one corner on the back a little bubbled, but doesn't look all that bad. Time to bust out the camera again.

Exterior looks good......engine looks fine too

the INTERIOR is another story...please say you have all of the original dash-center console-HVAC + associated screws-etc......IF YOU DON'T it will be unrealistically expensive to source those items to complete the job

I do have the heater core and evaporator, air hoses, and all the other parts from the dash. They're all stacked in the back (>.<)

Here's some more pics of what i have:

Nice condition center tray, with hinge intact! Go Figure.

The Dash Pod. This isn't in too bad of shape, what i'm worried about is being able to repair the top inside of the gauge area. It's pretty crispy.

The Center Console. Once again, this thing wasn't in bad shape until the fire. The way the air vent is all deformed though i'm assuming this one is a goner.

There is a little ... cylindrical thingie here that appears undamaged. Is this the temperature sensor i keep hearing about?

*shrug* where's this go?

Misc black box. I'm sure it's important. Undamaged at least.

This seems an odd thing to be under the dash. What does this motor do?

This thing looked undamaged at first, until i noticed whoever took it out ripped a big chunk out of the circuit board. Thanks, Buddy. I'm sure that just cost me $250.

This goes ... somewhere behind the center console i guess. Anyhow, it's FUBAR. The little vacuum pod things look salvageable anyhow.

Another piece that survived the blaze, but the wiring was not so lucky. This is repairable. Just need to buy a thousand feet of wire and a gallon bucket of crimp links.

Seriously, this isn't funny anymore. A few wire shorts, and one or two electrical components inoperative is not a big deal. You paid too much to begin with, and unless you can find a donor with intact wiring for next to nothing, you're going to throw away good money after bad. It's not that people are trying to dash your hopes or anything, it's just that some 928s don't realize their full potential until they go to the junk yard. I'd cut my losses, part it out, and start over with a better example.

I wish my first one, similar, was only $2500 going in.

To patch and drive it would be fun.

To worry about repairing it to stock condition wouldn't, though.

Too bad it's not an 86.5. I have an NOS dash/main body harness still in the box.

I bought a used wiring harnes on Ebay a few years ago for like $15. I use wires and connectors from it all the time to patch or rewire or add to what I got already on my other cars. See if you can find one. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to have what YOU need.

The electrical diagrams in the WSM's for 1984 are great. No wire colors at all. That makes it great fun tracking down issues.

Good Luck and keep posting! Don't get discouraged, just work through one set of problems at a time and move to the next.

So, use the 83 diagrams instead, they do show colors. Very few changes between the years, none of particular relevance.

PM me when ready, I will help you determine what wire goes where. And I have a lot of dash connectors snipped from an 83 harness for you if/when you get to that point. And the temperature control unit.

For sure Fabio. Turns out i'm going to be staying in Auberndale mon-fri next week for work. I may be available to get together before the weekend. I suppose that depends on how far you are away from the Holiday Inn in Winter Haven.
