How Do You Center Rear Wheels In the Wheel Well?
Hi guys,
I did do a search, but couldn't find anything definitive.
I just put on my new wheels for the track and I have one tire that is rubbing very slightly. It seems that I recall a post where someone had centered the wheels back up in the wheel well?
Can anyone shed some light. I've been traveling for work and on crunch time for next weeks event at MidOhio.
THANKS !!!
Ken

The cradle is mildly adjustable but won't solve this. If you align the rear for more camber the upper end of the wheel will tilt in a bit. Might be enough.
What offset and wheel and tire widths are you running? Any spacers?

Per the MM the body tolerance is + or _ 10mm. On one of my 928's I had to machine the spacer to get both wheels centered. The rear mounts for the suspension don't have that much play, so the spacers are your best option (if your using them).

Thanks for the reply guys.
I'm not running spacers and have just a little clearance issue on the right side and no issue on the left.
11 inch wheels with 315's. I was planning on adding a bit more rear camber when it goes in for alignment tomorrow, so maybe that will be enough.

Ken

Ken where are the tires rubbing???
inner fender or outer fender?? If its the inner then you can try centering the Xmember( 6 bolts)
If its the fender then you can pull the fender edges out or roll them and pull with some gloved hands.
Since your getting the car aligned you may also consider replacing the lower control arm center bushings #10 on the PET these will keep the rear end from wagging when power is applied they go to the lower Xmember to control arm and its easy if the lower control arms are removed to press the new ones in

I went through that on my 82/Gts and never corrected the problem. It had a aftermarket fiberglass kit and was not even. I looked at shifting the rear but it just moves the issue. I was able to cut some of the old metal out of the rear fenders but put kids in the back and it rub's. The good part is the kids stay home! The issue rims were too wide!
