Default Searched to no avail: Oil cooler line fitting size?

Hey guys,
Does anyone know the size (and type) of the 1) Oil cooler fittings that thread into the block, and 2) the oil cooler fittings that are on the radiator? I'm going to add an external cooler to my track car, and would like to plug the fittings on the radiator and use the stock holes tapped in the block for the new cooler. I guess I could just weld up the fittings on the radiator, but I still need to adapt something to the block to some -AN lines.

Reason being is my oil cooler is feeding oil into the coolant, as well as I'd like to keep the oil, well, cooler. I'd like to avoid a sandwich plate.

Thanks.

32mm is the line coupling fitting at the rad end; counter hold the rad fitting..........27mm IIRC

Thanks Malcolm. I'm actually looking for the size of the fitting and the pitch of the threads so I can plug the radiator and install new fittings in the block for -AN lines.

Mark,

The spec book describes it as a M 26 x 1.5 thread (under engine torque specs), that's the hose side of the fitting.

Jim,
Thank you very very much for that info. I don't know if I'll be able to find anything that large... might have to pull the fittings out of the block that the hose attaches to and measure them.

Ok, update. Armed with that info, I found this page from the Aeroquip catalog. Looks like they have an M26 female to AN-12 fitting. Now to find who someone who can source one!

Thanks again, Jim!

The radiator fitting is stepped M20 on the rad side, and I guess M26 on the hose side.

The block fitting if I remember correctly is equal, so should be M26. I have one on the bench that I can measure later if you like.

I have a spare set of ends from a salvaged set of lines for the block end.

I was going to braze a set of AN- connectors to them.

Drop me a note if interested.

Ok.. The ports on the radiator are M20x1.5 and the ports on the engine are M22x1.5

The screw in adapters convert to M26 as previously stated.

Ben,
Awesome, thanks so much... that helps me out a ton. I'll probably try to find something male to fit the female threads instead of trying to adapt the M26 and add more fittings.

Ken,
Thanks for the offer, but I don't trust myself modifying fittings to hold oil at high pressure... not something I could pull off at this time. Thank you though.

Please keep us updated with what you end up using.

Also, are the fittings the same on all years by any chance? I've got a 78 with no oil cooler and I've been thinking it might be good to add one if I'm going keep flogging it on the track.

Red,

The engine block thread fitting is M22 x 1.5.

There's two options to plumb the oil cooler from the block. You can cut and braze steel AN fittings to the existing hardware, as metioned (which is what i have).

I found these metric to AN adapters that could work also. Looks like they would thread directly into the engine. http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/gro...D=PLUMADAP22MM

I've got pictures of my cooler setup if you need help with ideas.

Just call Eric at BAT inc. http://www.batinc.net/mocal.htm
Tell him what car you have & he'll know off the top of his head what you need.
He also has all the metric to AN stuff in stock. That's where I got mine.

This thread is just getting better and better. Thanks everyone. One more question: Are the fittings sealed with an angled seat?

Bill,
If you have some pictures handy on your computer, I'd love to see what you have done.

The fittings on the rad are sealed with a washer and are not angled.

I have the rad out the car so removed the upper fitting to ensure statement accuracy (misunderstood the original post). Can post a pic if required.
