Default Brakelight switches on master cylinder

It looks like Iwillfinally have the time to replace the two switches on my master cylinder and get my brake lighys working again. Does anyone know if there is a Bosch or other maker part that can replace the Porsche part at less cost?

You can also leave the 2 on there and mount a later switch inside the cabin running wires to it.

Got a couple for my '82 at my local import auto parts store a couple of years ago.

Think they're also used on V-dubs.

Part number BEC 201-1086. No manufacture's mark just "Premium Quality."

About $5 each.

Be careful screwing them in - the brake master is rather brittle cast iron. If it feels like you've stripped the treads - you've bought a new master cylinder! Don't ask how I know....

Do them both, but one at a time. 24mm wrench. Difficult to get the wiring plugs back on unless you have small hands. VW/Audi part no is usual. When I changed mine I sealed the top cap with cling film to reduce fluid loss, and after filling the reservoir, I let any air that got in rise through the reservoir by itself, and didnt need to bleed it at all.

I've found these at several price levels as they're common VW parts. I got the cheapest ones and ended up with no brake lights and no warning flasher. I'd get the "better" VW parts and expect $10/ea.

Not a bad job. Not much fluid comes out and I didn't need to bleed the brakes, either. (Either time!)

yes standard VW rabbit parts from the early 80s you can prolly still get oem ones from the VW dealer for about the same price as aftemarket ones.

Looks like my brake light problem is no more. We replaced both switches on the bottom of the master cylinder and it went well and relatively fast. After we finished I has a central warning light for brake pressure warning, disconnected the battery and then reconnected it no more fault.

Thanks for all the help.
