Any advantage to exhaust upgrade?

I have a 4.5 in the 82. I was thinking of the following.
85 manifolds
X pipe
duel exhaust from a 85
Worth my time or should I just get a Y pipe w/ the single exhaust and call it good? By the way this is going on my track/street car.
Thanks

Anything done to the stock exhaust is an improvement.
A N/A 4.5L needs to have some back pressure otherwise it losses low RPM torque. Trying to pull a gear 1500 -3000 RPM is doggy, no fun on the street.
Signal exhaust, 2 1/2" piping off the manifolds, Hi-Flow catalytic converter, tuned "Y" pipe, dual straight flow mufflers is more than enough.

IIRC, if you were to utilize 85 SS headers then you will also need to build a short flanged extension to properly mate-up to the X or Y pipe. From what I researched, the 85 headers mate to the block but one side ends in a different location (forward) when using the early block.
If you don't covert to later headers, then the X or Y should mount directly.
Search this stuff, lots written here. At least one racer prefers the Y / Single.

What engine do you have? I have some S intake manifolds on Ebay Motors at the moment, maybe sold to an Aussie buyer if he get the funds together, if you have a CIS system it is an easy change over. I have these manifolds on my 84 MY with electronic injection, it is the source of part of the big power difference my car has over other 928s. Between 50 to 100 mph my car is quicker than the GT3RS and I have a G-Tech file to prove it. My exhaust is also upgraded. Intakes and the exhaust are the places to go first, assuming you have at least 10 to 1 comp, it you do have that![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
