My car had the warning light come on all the time. The belt was fine The tensioner was grounding out, and sending the warning. Like every one else, change the belt Its not always the belt that breaks from age, but the pulleys can fail and that breaks the belt 89s4

All the bearings in the timing belt systems have a finite lifespan. Those are the tensioner pulley, the water pump idler and the little idler pulleys right under the crank. Also the timing gears for the cams, oil pump and crank wear out over time and the teeth become sharp, causing the belt to wear faster. You should inspect all the timing gears and if they are "too shiny" or the teeth are not straight, replace them.
