You can get an s4 into those #'s with low boost. All I'm saying is lets be realistic. While I'm thinking about it my 87 5-speed, pre boost ran a 13.34, just a shade better than the factory's claim of 13.5. Now think about that for a second. A stock 32V 5-speed attaining 1/4's within a few tenths of a stock c-5 Zo6! The Porsche engine is far superior both in its tolerances and capability.
Quarter mile? Much less "an S4 with low boost" versus stock Vette's???

I see bone stock C5's run around Road America in the low 2:30's all the time. One Rennlister hit 2:31 with track tires - no spun rod bearing either. Show me a bone stock 928 of any year that can come close.

Friend of mine has a stripped ZO6 with ground effects turning 2:28.xx's at RA lap after lap....again, bone stock engine (exhaust / filter change). He purchased this car for less than a good GT would sell for.

This is so far off your original post it's ridiculous. You started a thread on 928's with a Chevy motor in it. Somehow (as you always do) you turn this into Corvette versus 928. Why does it have to be a Corvette?
Why not the turbocharged Camaro built by our local speed shop? Turbocharged LS powered to over 900rwhp? This motor would fit in a 928 quite well. First run you would shoot the stock transmission into the next county......

If we really want to get silly, I'll start posting video's of a locally, street driven, 2.2 liter AWD asian car putting down over 700hp to the wheels. That motor would fit quite easily into a 928. I'm waiting for someone to do that modification.

A good car is not defined by it's engine.

Is it time for a beer yet??

At the rate GM is going, the Vette is soon to be highly collectible...

In that line of thinking Eric, there is a redneck locally that has a Chevette with a pumped small block in it turning 9's at one of the tracks here. I could strap down a 427 to a john deer and weld 12' long wheelie bars on it and it would be the fastest thing at the track. But then you could call me cletus... or bubba....or Roscoe...or

Looks like this has turned into yet another 928 versus "that car" thread.

I think we are missing a key point here.....

Corvette's are a dime a dozen. PERIOD.

Sure they run awesome, but it isn't all about running the fastest for me. It's about driving a car rarely seen.

My friend has an '02 Z06 and it will run circles around my GTS, but so will the other 100 or so Z06's I see on the road every day. Boring.

Give me a car that is a pleasure to drive and 'feel'. I could have gone faster with a Vette for a lot less than what I have in my GTS, but come see me in 15 years when I'm the owner of a highly prized low production Porsche and you are the owner of very very bland Vette.

Why do some of you guys hate the Corvette so much?
It is a freaking classic American car and there is a reason they sold so many of them.......................................

The problem was that none of them knew how to get to the sensor without removing the whole front of the engine. I asked the owner (former 944 owner) if he was ready to go back to a Porsche for ease of maintenance. He looked at the ground and mumbled that he's getting close. Yeah, he has 385rwhp (when he's not having engine troubles almost every weekend), but his car weighs over 3400lbs stripped down to race weight as an ST2 car. My 928 will weigh about 3000lb... Maybe an LSx would be great in a 928, but maybe you're just looking for a bigger headache.
You proved you were standing around inexperienced mechanics.

I called my friend at Corvette Sports about this (yes in the last 10 minutes). His response: "you have to pull the intake manifold which is a piece of cake on the C5. On the C6 it's right in front, even easier to swap".

Or a snobby Porsche owner that looks down his nose at anything without a Porsche crest? I would rather hang with the redneck.

I'm a car guy, not an auto marque (or model) snob. I do not get people who are. Life is too short, there are a lot of nice cars out there, some of them made in the USA.

On that note, Chevette's are awesome for snow racing.

Same reason why 911 and 944 owners rip on the 928. Or Corvette owners talking down to Camaro owners........

Hey, there's something to be said about running down to your local autoparts store and picking up a rebuilt alternator or water pump for $$ instead of mail ordering for $$$.

But you'd never catch me driving a hybrid.

If you were driving a hybrid, anybody could catch you.

'cos people needed parts cars?

I kid.. I kid. Actually, I know next to nothing about Corvettes.

In Europe, Porsche fills that niche and all the Ferrari drivers argue how if they wanted cheap power they'd have bought a Porsche, but it doesn't have soul

First post,love topics like this.
I'm in Australia, been in love with 928's since I first saw one nearly 30 years ago.
just bought my first one, A recipe I have been searching for for the last 6 months, Straight, near perfect paint, full leather interior in very good condition, and.....a fubared engine.
the next part could even upset the Chevie fans, I intend to install either a 1UZ-FE(Vvt) or a 3UZ-FE depending on availability, if the combination of numbers and letters is confusing, they are both made by TOYOTA ( this is what my user name is all about )
both engines 90 degee all alloy V8, quad cams, 4 bolt mains, and the potential to get a 1000RWHP, I am building it as a cruiser, so will be happy with about 500. (Street only)
Probably not the the most civil first post...probably even quit upseting for some, but hello everybody anyway
(My last transplant somehow upset the local Z car evangelists, so I come equiped with with ready made thick hide)
http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=127163
Has anyone tried this transplant? or is this the wrong forum in which to bring the subject up?
Cheers Russ

Edit, Make that SIX bolt mains!

Having a Toyota V-8 in there would at least make things look a little more familiar.

This should be fun.

I love the first few things I saw in that thread. I really miss my '77 280z. That was some piece of work and I think this project will be something really interesting. 500hp is impressive no matter how you slice it.

You may make some friends on here, and maybe not, but you'll definitely have some of the most 'active' threads if you post about your 'Axis of Evil' car conversion (nice name btw, gonna put any FIAT or Ferrari parts in there?).

On topic: Meh. I think to each his or her own. It's a car not a religion. (but then you could guess where I stand on leaving the car pristine from my sig)

I am not a Vette basher, just a 928 lover. Blown 87, I would get along just fine with the boys down there, those that know me here can verify. Now that Toyota engine is magnificent! There are some Supra freaks around here that I have a lot of respect for. Now if someone TT'd one of those and put it in a 928 it would be an easier pill to swallow.
I think the 32V could be capable of 1000hp if someone would be willing to sacrifice a few engines figuring it out.
