Removing kickdown switch

The kickdown switch on my S4 appears to be jammed/broken - doesn't depress under pressure whereas I keep push a known working one down on another 928 using thumb pressure.
How do you remove the switch from its mounting bracket? Obviously I would first remove the wiring connector but after that...?
PET shows a 'grooved nut' and spring washer behind the switch on the mounting bracket, but as this is hard up against the footwell not much room to get a wrench on it!
Also I wonder if anyone has come across this before i.e. switch which will press in?
Thanks

Is the bar that swings towards it as the pedal is pressed down not hitting the button or is the actual button not working? These things often get out of alignment and the lever arm does not actually hit the button or does so intermittently.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

I had one that was like that, the arm was not hitting the button, in checking the button with an ohm meter I discovered the switch was OK and did not replace it, however the linkage was worn out/rusted up.

The arm is making contact, it's the switch that isn't working. Was hoping it would be problem with lever arm as that looks an easy fix.
I can get down there and press hard with my hand and it feels rock solid. On my other 928 (have a lovely pair for a few days till it's sold!) the switch moves visibly when pushed and makes a click.

Sounds harsh but sensible davek9! On my way tomorrow with a mallet...
Another 928 friend of mine always says "if in doubt, hit it with a hammer" though I try to follow a more enlightened maintenance philosophy.
On reflection I reckon the switch is stuck in rather than won't press - can remember thinking it looked shorter than my working one but will confirm in the light tomorrow. Smack may get it to pop back.

Use a "dead pedal switch" instead. Its just a $5.00 horn switch in parallel to the original switch. Two hands on the wheel, right foot on the accelerator and the lef foot toggles the "sport" switch.

Remove the dead pedal box first because there is a very important computer in there - you wouldn't want to drill through it.
