86 - to chip or not before smog test
Hi there,
I have a chipset for my 86 I was going to put in but I'm due for a smog test in less than a month. Will the chips affect smog or do they help mostly the high end? I'm going to make a long run south this weekend and thought it would be nice to have the chips in for this trip. The ECU's don't look to be a big PITA to remove.
Thanks,

FWIW - I have the eBay chips in SATA (noticeable performance improvement, but likely not spot on for smog) and have passed CA smog twice without issue. Actually, both smog guys commented that it was quite clean for being 20+ yrs old.
I think with tune-up parts and cats that still work, you shouldn't have any trouble passing...oh, make sure to heat up the cats with some spirited driving right before testing (the smog guy should know that and likely will suggest it as well).
Good luck!!
