Coolant fluid
My local porsche dealer run out of stock, my coolant level is close to the minimum level, what coolant fluid is recommended to be used, or could I just top it up with some distilled water.

Is you coolant newer than 2 years old? Otherwise time to flush it.
How low is you coolant mixture level? Can you see fluid in the expansion tank?
I would suggest checking what percentage of you coolant/water mixture is coolant. You may be able to add distilled water if your ratio is near 50/50.
If you coolant % is nearer 25%, I'd suggest adding more coolant, or a mixture with more coolant

Dexcool is the aluminum friendly brand many use here. Was the mix 50/50 before it got low? How long til the dealer replenshes his stock? On mine the minimum level you mention would mean you are adding 1-2 litres. I don't like to mix if I don't know what brand is currently in the sys. You are not looking for freeze protection in Oman so I would go with distilled water; maintaining 50/50 is not critical to you.

Thanks,
All the coolant was replaced end Juli 2008, as they replaced the engine at that time. As usual in this part of the country nobody ever knows when they will get their stock replenished :-), I expect within 3 to 4 weeks. We approaching summer, so until November the temp will never drop below 28 degrees Celsius (it goes higher though 48 shade temperature in July is pretty normal)
As I can still see some coolant at the vary the bottom of the expansion tank I will just top it up with distilled water for now, then I will replace it completely with correct coolant as soon as they have stock.

Have you checked for leaks?

You can use Mercedes Benz phosphate free coolant on your 928. In fact I only use MB coolant on both my 944 and 928, and both still have the original water pumps.
Alternatively you can use VW phosphate free coolant which my local Porsche dealer uses. I would bet that Porsche coolant is just a relabeled of the VW coolant.
