Mark,

Not many people really understand the 928 as you well know and since the 928 has some aluminum body panels some think the whole 928 is made of it.

You missed the opportunity to end this debate while you were at the Porsche awards banquet and given the tour of the museum. However this car is not yet ready for public inspection and you would have had to ask a special favor from the Porsche museum curator, Herr Bischoff, whom I think you met, to have been allowed to see the Daytona racer and test the obvious spots with a magnet.

Maybe next time!

Cheers,
Constantine

This is a great thread. I didn't know any of this history until reading everyone's posts.

The curator had his hands full as the museum was soon to open but there was that one special 928 on display that had 911 suspension on it and some other unique features like an oil pan and cross member I've never seen.

Hi Afshin,

It is pretty cool since many, to include Mr. Snodgrass and the Excellence writer who wrote a story about this same Daytona 928 racer, reported it had been destroyed afterwards!

In researching this car for a possible story in the 928 Forum magazine, I tracked down some leads and finally confirmed it's existence with Herr Bischoff at the Porsche museum a few years ago. That was an exciting day!

Seems from Mark A.'s post above from another forum, it's existence is no longer a mystery. Hopefully the 928 community can see it once again.

Cheers,
Constantine
