Default Oil cooler lines

Im looking to change oil cooler line 928.307.072.01 it looks like a nightmare what can i do?

Those aren't so bad. You'll nee big wrenches to get the fitting. Make sure to couter-hold the adapters. Will drain a lot of oil when removed. The stock lines are tied togeter with a rubber piece so cut that or take them both off.

Are they leaking or just suspect? I've taken them to Pirtek to have new hose put in. Like $50. Other folks have taken them to general hydraulic hose outfits. A few places refused me before I went to Pirtek which is a national (international?) franchise operation.

Thanks glen,yes the part number mentioned is leaking but to do this job it looks like the large rad. hose has to be removed?

I just pulled both lines off my '90 S4. Mine were not leaking, but since I have the alt. and all the PS hoses/pump out it seemed like a good WYAIT. I would remove the above to have room to work. The fittings on mine were TIGHT and took some extra leverage to get broke loose. I doubt I could have gotten them loose with everything in the way.

I picked up a set of large size, thin fitting wrenches from Harbor Freight for $35. Had all the sizes I needed to counter hold the fittings and loosen the hose nuts. Also came in handy counter holding the trans cooler connections on the rad. Others here counseled me not to disturb the block fittings as some have experienced failure of the block sealing surfaces when removing them, so I wanted to make sure they did not move.

It doesn't have to be removed, but that might be convenient.

I'm trying to picture it. I think the alternator is in the way.

This hose is on the passenger side very top of oil cooler.

Thats not a engine oil cooler line but an auto transmission line.

Yes i figured as much with the red all over my hands, scots is that the rite part number i listed above?

No...........there's a rad drain plug almost directly below the upper rad hose. If you partially remove the plug you'll drain enough anti-freeze in a few mins to allow removal of the upper rad hose.

Once off you can remove and repair the leaking cooler hose, refit all and refill the rad at the expansion tank.

you will also have to remove the bolts on the front of the fans and lift them up about an inch then push them back to get a 27 and 32 mm wrenches in between the rad and fans to loosen the cooler lines you must counterhold the fitting in the radiator or you will damage the cooler
