Default H-4 headlights

Went to put in the new H-4 headlights tonight and found that the harness plug is for a 3 prong plug. The new lights have a 4 prongs. Car is an 84S. Did I get the wrong lights or am I missing something here?

TIA.........

Here's what I know... the H4 lamps have 4 prongs, the H5 have 3 prongs.

Unfortuntely, that is all I reallt know by looking at the spares in my garage. You know, I've done the same exact thing your doing, but can't remember, for the life of me, what needs to be done.

I vaguely remember having to bend one of the prongs down to make the plug fit. Does that look like it may work?

The 4th prong is unused, do not worry about it.
Install and forget.

Bending one prong would allow the plug to fit the light, or dremel a slot in the plug to allow the fourth prong to fit. However, not sure I want to do that until I know for sure that it's ok to do, H-4's aren't cheap.
Also by bending a prong down will I lose the high or low beam function?

I assume that for a H5 to H4 conversion.

It's coming to me now... you should be albe to plug in the 3-plug connect and clear the 4th prong on the H4. Just like shown in Zeus's pic.

I am working at a similar project and found new "pig tails" that work at my local auto store. Having trouble finding a replacement 8" headlight thought

If you can't clear the extra prong due to the socket you used - either get another brand of socket - or file the pin off (it isn't used at all in this application). This is just the weatherproof cover for the lens mechanism and obviously its a multi purpose part (some would have built in marker lights presumably...). No big deal - and no the actual H4 bulb standard is a 3 pin standard...

Good info guys. Thanks much. I did try the search function and only got a thread from 2003 that didn't help at all. I'll probably just cut or file the unused pin off.
It's a good thing this place isn't a bar, I'm starting to spend a lot of time here..........

Is the 4th a resistance loopback for testing if either of the bulbs have a burned out element?
