What are the widest phone dials avail in our bolt pattern? If I want to go wider yet, what do you think of an OB with aftermarket wheels that are period design?
Doc,
As far as wheels, I think people should do what they like. It's your car.
The short shifter is a very easy job. It takes just a few minutes to do but probably a few drives to get used to. I think it is nicer to drive, but since you have a little less leverage the action seems a little tougher and notchy at first.

Is the short shifter a hard project?
There are 7.5x16 and 9x16 from the 944/951 world, IIRC.
Short shifter is easy, just remember to strengthen the welds.
I will have a new SS available shortly that will be easy to fit and do away with the front shifter ball cup.

I once mesured mine and they were 17"... But people here told me it was impossible...
So I take I mesured badly from outside lips to outside lips... <shrug>
I think that's right. I bought some 16" S4 rears and they were ~17" measured at the outside lips. My assumption is that the inch measurement refers to the ID of the tire, not the OD of the rim.
I'm guessing the 9" Phone dials are home brewed. If I was going to cut up a phone dial wheel, I'd prolly go to 9.5" back and 9" front. That's about all that's going to fit under a 928 fender. However, I could bulge the fenders and go even bigger. Bwhahahahahahahaha!

Are you sure you could fit a 9" under the front fenders?
When I had my first 928 at the tire shop, the techs mounted my rear 8" in the front, and the 7" in the rear. The first bump I hit caused a scary noise, and scraped the undercoating down to the bare aluminum.
