Default Anybody know the difference between memory seats 87 VS 89? electicial questions?

Some one at some point took the memory module out of my 87 and hot wired the seat, it works, but they butchered the wires.

The mirrors go through this circuit IIRC, they have been inoperative since I got the car and I am going to be trying to get the GTS mirrors up and running.

I have a 89 in the shop and I wondered if anyone knows if the modules are the same and the wiring is the same before I pull the seat out to look in the customers car, with his approval of course.

I bought a used module and I want to see if the wiring is the same, take some pictures of the layout and see what I am going to have to get to make this work again.

Greg

The memory module and wiring should be the same if it was originally memory equipped.

Adding memory to a non memory car is very hard. Adding memory to a non-memory seat is very hard. I would not attempt either. If it is a re-quip it should be easy - but why was it removed?...?

Is the mirror memory module still there - black plastic box with 2 mounting ears on the sides - above the dead pedal on outside driver footwell wall - 3 connector plugs 2 small one big.

That I do not know Alan, I will check and see if the mirror module is there, but the seat memory module it gone.
Both came came with memory seats.

As to why it was removed, my guess was the module went bad and who ever owned the car just wanted the seats to go back and forth, up and down, and the mechanic working on the car was to lazy to put the old (possibly bad) module back in the car.

It is a mess under the seat.

From looking at the wiring diagrams (last year) I thought the mirrors also went through the seat module, is that correct?

I really do not care about the memory function, other than I hate for stuff not to work, I will be happy if I can get the new GTS mirror motors to work.

Thank you for your help.

The wiring for GTS Aeros for memory and all other functions is the same as you have on a memory equipped '87 with flags - it should not be difficult to reconnect it all.

The mirror module is there, we are pulling the seat out and I will post a picture of what is left under the seat.

I just tried the other car, everything works in it, that is going to be a great help to have one right next to it in working order.

You are right, the mirror memory control goes thru the seat memory control.

I know the seat mem cont is a different p/n for 87. I'm not sure what is different about it though. I couldn't find the p/n's in PET, sorry.

I feel like I'm not being much help here...

If you need the wiring diagram for the seat mem, I can email it to you.

It looks like you're missing a bunch of connectors to the mem control. There are something like 12 or so. I count only 4 or 5.

I think the controller works for both 8 and 12 way seats. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I counted 5 that look like they go into a module, plus one other one.
I also have a spare seat, no idea what year it came out of, but it does nave connectors on it.

Good to have extras, but since you have lumbar on your grey seats, you may need more. I can tell the extra seat doesn't have lumbar by the number of connectors.

The controller in that pic is an early one. 928 618 134 00

928intl has 928 618 134 01 listed as 89>

Hi Greg,

My memory seat shot craps, so if it doesn't work out for you, I'd be willing to buy the under-seat memory module back...

Hoping you're successful but you've got an out if not.
Brian.

Brian, it is yours if I don't use it.
I was trying to remember who sold it to me at such a great price, you can tell how quick I am, been at least 2 1/2 years.
