Default Water Bridge Bolt Question

Broke a cap screw off, right at the head of the bolt located on the angled flange of the water bridge. This is on a 1984S - 4.7 engine. Can't get the bridge off due to the angle of the bolt, still holding the bridge.

I will have to drill it out and try an easy out. If this doesn't work I will have to heli coil it.

I am told that this is a 9mm bolt. Looking in a MSC Industrial Supply Catalog, I see only one heli coil for 9mm. The description says, course M9 x 1.25 as the thread size. Can anyone tell me if this is the right size heli coil that I need? Also, what size drill bit should be used?

Thanks,

Mike........

PET says 8 X 30. you need 4 of them
I dont know of any 9 mm bolts being used.

If you know a good welder try welding on a nut to the end of the bolt shank then unscrew it with a socket

Thanks Merlin for the pet info. I would try your welding a nut to the shank, but the shank is in the water bridge flange and I can't remove the bridge while the shank is in it. So I will either drill the shank or cut the bridge so it can be removed.

The bolt heads broke right off my 30 year old water bridge. How did I get it off. Let me try to remember....Oh yeah, I remember....

Yep, thats my plan of attack come saturday. I'm hoping I won't have to drill, but if I do at least I have the M8 heli coil.

In another recent water bridge thread I saw where the bridge should be grounded to keep the corrosion

On a side note: Thanks to the person who told me theses bolts were m9's, and MrMerlin, I got my Morehouse CD pet program up and running.

Mike,
Sorry about the 9mm part. Can't find where I saw that and must of been dreaming or smoking something.
Definitly 8 x 30.

Or better yet make sure there is no voltage present for any kind of electrolitic corrosion to happen.

Grounding straps sure cant hurt though, but anything over .3 volts is going to cause problems and I would rather see less than a tenth of a volt.

I would use timeserts instead of heli-coils if there is room for them if you have to do a thread repair.

good luck.

Mike - get that car fixed - you've got to carry the banner for the western PA guys to Hershey this year!
