Default 928 Wanted In The UK - Manual Transmission

If anyone knows of a RHD 928 that may be coming up for sale or currently for sale, I'd be really interested to know about it.

I'm only looking for a manual model, ideally from 78/79, a late S2,an S4 or GT.

The car will ideally be very solid, mechnically excellent and must have a comprehensive service history with receipts by Porsche or Porsche/928 specialists.

Pricing expectations depend on year, spec and condition etc.

Hope to hear from anyone with information leading to the apprehension of a manual land shark!

Regards

Sam

Sam,
I don't know of any, but have a look on 928.org.uk if you don't already know about it, try emailing some people on the mailing list.
Cheers

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your reply. I'm working though all the different forums and groups that exist for the 928 - wow, this is an active community - I had no idea!

Having previously been a 993, SL500 and M5 owner and a member of those manufacturer owners clubs, I've never see such a great level of camaraderie or activity for a single model as with the 928!

After driving a manual S2 I am hooked, it's just that the one I looked at was overpriced, so they have my lower offer - let's see if they go for it.....

In the meantime, I'll keep searching and hopefully the right car will come up soon!

Sam,
This IS a very active community, I'm new to it too and I've never known anything like it! Where in the UK are you based?

I'm based in Berkshire, so quite a few miles from Newcastle but close enough to Dr. Anderson! I've found people to be very helpful and really objective....

Are you on the 928UK email list ? only a Sunday breakfast meet is being organised Bracknell/Wokingham area.
Re. the car you've made an offer on, further to others on the other thread & considering the things wrong with it an offer of £4000 would be more appropriate.

P.S. Seeing as your in Berks. if you need anybody to come along & look with a knowledgeable eye at any car, I would be more than happy to.
P.P.S. What M5 ? we have a '95 E34 as well as the 928 GT & S4 auto.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your message and kind offer of assistance in terms of looking at prospective cars. I will definately take you up on that when the right one comes along!

I've been in contact with Joel about his car and will hopefully have the chance to see it at some point next week.

It's been great to get so many insights in to what 'that' S2 was actually worth. Paul A agreed that it was over valued, as does Angus in his buying guide.

I really hope that I can find a decent car to enjoy soon, so I can have it ready to enjoy this summer. I've really learnt my lesson though; don't buy the first one you see!

I just need to work out which model is going to be right for me - 78/79, late S2 or S4/GT, all manual of course....

My M5 was a late model E39 in Estoril Blue with black leather. It was a great car, but had too much capital being tied up in it and the prospect of major depreciation as it came from a BMW dealer. I fortunately got out before prices really started to drop last year. I had an SL500 (W129) after the M5, which I sold this year as it was too disconnected from the road. Plus it was an auto and I really want to get back to a manual performance car. I LOVE V8s, rear wheel drive, Porsches and something that doesnt shed tons of value every year - hence why I am here looking for a 928. You have a great collection of cars there!

I've signed up to the 928uk email list, will hopefully get approved soon.

Most have already lost 90% of their original window sticker price, so further depreciation really shouldn't be a concern.

The biggest cost will be fuel, unless you intend to pay someone else to maintain your car.

Have you seen this one '91 GT £4500 ,local to us, don't be put off by the mileage, I've striped a couple of S4 engines with 200k + on them & there was no appreciable wear on them. One owner so should have full service records, plus at that price you can spend any left over money on renewing things that any car you buy will almost certainly need regardless of mileage.

Interior looks very good, not even any sign of wear on the steering wheel.

I never wash my car, but even I would probably show it a hose briefly before taking pictures to sell it!

Can't believe the advertised price...

Does anyone know this car?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1990-PORSCHE-9...1%7C240%3A1318

It had a respray back in July 2002 and now has the rust showing on the wing as pictured/described. This is within 3.5k miles too. Why is this? Surely a worry?

Also, it has no stamps in the book for its 50,000 mile service. Service before was a 38,500 miles. Has since been serviced and cambelt changed at 65k miles. Now at 68,000 miles.

Is it reasonable to ask to run a pre-purchase inspection on the car if I was to place a bid and win, before any money changes hands?

You'd have to get rid of those Avon ZZ1's, they fall somewhere between comical and lethal.

I really doubt that car is worth 50% more than 91GT, but I have a similarly high mileage car so perhaps I'm not being objective.

Oil pressure is 5, so must have only just started the engine before taking the shot.
