Default Quilted Diamonds - New design for seats

Hello everyone,

I've been an admirer of fine British upholstery for some time now and have been working on adapting some of the classics to our cars.

One of the great standard, when properly done, is the quilted diamond pattern, as found on Bentley and Limited Edition Aston Martin. Variations of the same pattern is also found in new supercars like Spyker.

The following example is of Boxster seats, simply because the client was the first to give me the opportunity, wanting both a change of color and style.

But I have 3 sets of our seats on the bench that will carry variations of this same technique. So consider this as food for thought and a preview of things to come:

The inspiration for this particular design was a limited edition AM Zagato DB7 seat:

I started the work with the basic Boxster seat that most of you are familiar with. The same seats are also found on 996 and 997s.

The following pictures are what I came up with:

Bentley reserves this treatment for their most expensive models (Brookland and Azure), and I think I know why
In order to achieve the precise, faceted effect of each diamond, it takes a lot more work than simply sewing through a piece of foam.

After many trials, I ended up laminating my own pads, which are then lasered, and then depending on the effect needed, each diamond is profiled, before the leather is applied and the first stitch goes in. But I think the result is worth it

I have a nice set of the early 928 sport seats coming out next with this design. That will be an interesting one.

Ok, next I want to see this with Pasha

Excellent work as always. Using an AM interior as a pattern is always a good idea.

Hi Paul,
The arched panels at the inside of bolsters and hip areas...is that leather double thick for extra wear or a design touch?

Very nice....and its always a good thing to have options.

Hey Dean,

in this particular case, it's a design element. But I am now importing my own leather; vat dyed, semi-aniline, with properties (abrasion resistance, stain protection, UV protection etc) that far surpasses even the most stringent automotive tests.
So, not only will these rub pads wear better, the whole seat will feel better, smell better and wear far better than what we were used to.

How about the Quilted Diamonds pattern on the door insert?

That would look cool, no?

That is the only part I don't like... I think those make it to busy looking if that is the right word... Otherwise I LOVE IT!

*ponders* I wonder what would have happened if he'd been born Paul Meisterbrau instead of Champagne?

Much like I do with the Pascha or the script designs, matching touches are already designed to make a unified interior.
This is a bold pattern, so it must be used sparingly, but door inserts and/or the center console side panels are excellent highlights.

Old skool!

Next thing we'll be seeing some finely rubbed deeply varnished timber on the dashes and doors.

Did someone say diamond pasha. That'll be complex.
