Left turn signal won't cancel
It's been cold and my left turn signal doesn't always cancel after turning a corner. I can hear it trying to engage and it sometimes does..but often not. The weather's warming up and it's not as bad.
Question: It there a relatively easy way to lube this area so it'll work properly without taking the pod off or removing a lot of stuff?
Thanks,
H2

There was thread I found that said that the cancel mechainsm becomes worn after some time in LHD cars. I guess we favor signaling for left turns. I followed the Rx and gently filed the cancel mechanism with a emery board. Left hand signal has canceled ever since. Come to think of it, it was my first 928 project .
It was Theo's tips that helped: http://jenniskens.livedsl.nl/Technic...2/MyTip208.htm
Good luck!

Hi,
I experenced that worry in my last 944. The hub is almost the same as the 928 one. So, I wonder if it is possible to repair it properly. I think not.
I finally replace it with second hand parts I had Founded on e-bay. Still the parts costs only 150 € from porsche dealer. The fact is that that parts has many refs because of equipement in the car. So, find the right one can be a pain job.

Shouldn't be too hard. I have a new Momo steering wheel I might put on while I'm there.

I have this issue as well.
Although i havent installed it in the car yet (other projects), this is what i came up with as a possible solution.
I have this drawer in my tool chest that is full of "scrap...junk..parts..odds and ends etc etc" but with the contents in this drawer i swear i can fix anything in the world (except glass and a broken heart as i tell my daughter)...anyhow, i had some square brass tubing that was the same inside thickness as the plastic is on the outside(it slides right over it).
I cut a section out and plan on epoxying it in over the plastic part.
As far as i can tell from playing around with the lever and plastic piece, it should work. Perhaps some minor mods and tweeking yet... The notch on the steering column just needs a little more material to grab on to inorder to cancel the signal.
doable?

If the white nylon part looks OK - there are other reasons why cancelling won't work - they are internal to the combo switch - they are also repairable (with replacement parts) - but a little challenging. There is a write up on it from year ago.

looking straight on it appears my plastic is in good shape?
but if you look "down" on it from above you can see it is cut..or is it worn... at an appx 45' angle...is that normal?
I quess what i need to see is a new "perfect" cancel tab for comparison?
anyone?....Mark?
If i poke my finger in and move the tab i can get it to cancel. This leads me to think the internals are ok at least.

All right hand turns so they don't have to wait for a light to turn left... they can always go right on red. But, yes, UPS does try and set up routes for all right hand turns or as many as possible to save time and money!

A failing turn signal cancel can also indicate failed steering shaft bearings.
Try moving the steering wheel up/down while it is locked.
If it moves, the bearings need replacement.

Everyone has missed the most obvious question:
How many times did you go around the block before you discovered the problem?
