Default For Sale 1988 Auto Transmission & Torque Tube

If anyone is interested:

Auto transmission from 1988 S4. The car has 190,000 miles on it, but the auto was running and shifting smoothly when removed (I'm putting in a manual transmission). Fluid and filter change was within last 5k miles. Asking $750 obo plus shipping

Also, up for sale is the torque tube, no vibrations, noise, etc. $250 obo plus shipping

Well 99.9% sure its not. Its not coded for it on the label in the trunk - but it might not be the original.

Is there any way to tell from stampings on the case?

Yes, but I forget which code is what. On the stampings there's an S, or S1, or S2 indication of some kind which authoritatively described what lurks within.

I had your opposite problem. My car's window sticker said LSD, but for reasons unknown, that's not what's physically in there, hence my interest

Now that the search function is up, I've found out the code (based on a post by Guru Jim Bailey)
for an 88 the code is G2812 2 J if it is LSD, or G2812 1 J if open. I'll check later
