Ron still chimes in occasionally, I 'see' him regularly on FB, he's still in SoCal and still posting amazing pics. His girlfriend is really cute, FWIW.

Malcolm--

I saw the thread and started to post to it about how Bend is a great place for a gathering, with tons of activities from outdoor/vacation stuff to pub crawls and the awesome microbreweries here.

Then harkened back to the Sharktoberfest events in my own back yard in Socal and how few I've actually been able to attend. My consulting schedule involves more and more problem analysis these days, and I don't have as much control of schedule as 'normal' folks have. My late winter-spring, and the fall periods are booked two-plus years in advance, and there are always RCA's and other failure analysis projects available for periods in between. Bottom line is that I wish I could actually segment out the time and effort to put on an event. I'd be happy if I could segment the time to just attend an event. Instead, I show up at the last minute somewhere in the country, in a rental car, visit for a bit, and disappear back to a project nearby.

I gotta get a better handle on this retirement thing. I don't need the work, don't need the dollars, but do need the mental challenges to keep the few remaining brain bits from falling over.

Bob, you also mentioned my good friend Chris Purvis. He sold his 928 for his real passion, a Caterham 7. But he's still with us in spirit as his willing assistance with mine has enabled me to join this heady group.

BTW, I also split my time between So Cal and Oregon -- Astoria for me for a regular weekend getaway. 10000 people and four breweries.

And that is the truth.

I have benefitted from the generosity of so many Rennlisters in both the UK and the US. People who go out of their way to help, encourage and offer support when things go wrong, as well as be there for the fun stuff on trips and on the track.

For instance, if it weren't for Martin Dunks (not sure of his Rennlist name as the member list is now hidden) I would have sold my car for scrap when the cam belt failed 12 years ago, instead he assured me I could get it back on the road, and also sourced the replacement heads for me.

And if it weren't for jon928se I'd still be wondering how to change a clutch.

I'm also hoping to meet up with Cheburator & Co again in a couple of months at the Nurburgring for some more car fun. He also rescued me and my mate when we were left with no way to get home on our first trip there, in the 928 of course.

When I bought my 928 I had no money and no clue, now I'm all the richer for all the friends I've made as a result.
