The deal on almost any used S4 is that they cost US$20k to have a nice one. Combo of purchase and first-year fixit parts. Pay more for a nice one at purchase, lower your first year parts bill. Big difference is labor and drive time.

Sad for most buyers that there are really no cheap 928's out there, if your desire is a nice car when you are done. Pay now, or pay twice later.

I count my blessings for lucking into a VG to Excellent example way back when. Planned on a project because the value at the time seemed too good to be true. Truth is that for my car anyway, almost everything except the AC refurb/convert can be pretty easily classified as normal maintenance. A lot of normal maintenance, but worth it IMHO.
