Engine and/or computer grounds clean to bare metal? Ohm the engine ground cable.

Measure the coolant sensor resistance at the sensor. Is it in spec? Then move to the computer and back probe the coolant sensor pins at the connector. Same resistance?

Hey Tony,

I'm the one that first identified the throttle O-ring wear issue and replaced them while I was working on the top-end. I don't have any leaks through there. I did replace and subsequently checked the temp sensors (all of them) back to the LH/EZF and they were all in spec.

I haven't gone through the ground contacts in a while, I could try that.

As far as the throttle plate, it appears to be closing completely but I did remove it to replace the O-rings, so I can check that. I also need to check that the vacuum lines are in the right place on the rear of the throttle. There is one on the front that's capped off. I forget what that's for, maybe it's leaking now that I think of it...

Thanks everyone,
I'll try all of these things and report back, but probably not until tomorrow night.

I did check the advance, it's about 10 deg. when I first start up, then it's about 22 after I blip it and it settles down to 1000 rpms. But the idle switch is resetting every time.
It would be better to cap the large line from the carbon cannister at the T on the engine.

If it's 22°, then the EZF is not getting the idle signal. It thinks the engine is at cruise. Pulling off the vacuum line makes it think the engine is under heavy load, so the advance will be <15°.

Are you sure you put the throttle springs back on properly? When I disassembled mine, I did it wrong the first time, and there wasn't enough spring pressure.

Resolved!

My hunting idle and high idle were both part of the same thing. Bad LH unit!

I recently got a replacement LH/EZF to test and here's what Adam G. and I did to isolate the problem:

First swap out my LH and EZF with the replacements (with stock chips). This immediately smoothed out the idle. Next I had to isolate whether it was the LH or the EZF.

Next I put a set of stock chips into my original LH and EZF (previously had a set of Autothority chips) to see if that would have any effect. The idle was slightly smoother, but not quite as good as it had been with the replacement set.

Next I put the known good LH in with my original EZF (but with a stock chip) and it seemed fine (steady idle, 720+-20) and then I tried the original LH and the known good EZF (stock chip) and the idle was a little rough again (+- 30-40rpms). So the problem seems to have been in the original LH unit, and it was probably exacerbated by the advanced timing of the Autothority chip (it was still there but less severe with a stock chip).

Finally, Just for fun, I put the Ken's chip (EZF'er) into my original EZF unit and used the known good LH with the stock chip. The idle was even smoother than stock, (710 +-10rpms) and it sounded great, with great throttle response as well.

I left the EZF'er chip in there instead of going back to the Autothority set, just to try it out and HOLY CRAP! First of all it's never idled this smoothly as long as I've had it. Second, to all you boosted guys out there: YOU GUYS ARE FREAKIN' NUTS! I can't believe the throttle response and the amount of power I'm getting right now. When I gunned it on Rt 18 on the way home I almost pissed myself. It was scary! I can't imagine having even 50 more HP, let alone the 150-200 more that some of you guys are unleashing.

Ken, you are a genius and I can't wait to take the car to the dyno and see what I'm getting now.

My car is really dialed in now. Just a few more enhancements and it should be about as quick as it can be without adding boost (I'm working on going to an 86.5 exhaust instead of the 2-1-2 stock setup ).

Thanks for all the advice and assistance everyone!
