Did Mercedes manufacture the complete 928 automatic transmissions?

Great thread and I am resurrecting to try and gain further information.
The auto transmission pan seems to be special to the 928 - talking about 83 to 95 to be specific to start with. It has the rear pipe leading to the reservoir.
Porsche part number was 960 307 031 04 which SS to 722 270 111 2. I am trying to source the pan from Mercedes if possible and as already mentioned Mercedes does not recognize the 722 part number. A pan for a similar gearbox without the pipe to the reservoir sells for less than $100 which is a far cry from the $480 Porsche supplied unit.
If the pan was special to Porsche then I am probably wasting my time. Where any Mercedes cars that were fitted with the same gearbox using a reservoir instead of a dip stick when the gearbox was mounted directly to the engine?

That is really kind of you but I already have the some of the pans here. Maybe a longshot but you can look at the pan and see if there are any part numbers stamped on there that are different to the two we currently know.

Seems that for the ~$350 price difference, one could commission a shop to braze the reservoir tube into a few MB sumps.
The $500+ is a far cry from the less-than-$100 these new 928 pans went for not that very long ago. Guess I need to revise the recommendation that a pan with warped flanges should just be replaced. Straightening now seems to reasonable, even if it takes a few hours of metal craftsmanship to get one to seal. For those playing along at home, got the right inch-lb torque wrench yet? Way cheaper than repairing or replacing a warmed trans pan.

Hey Roger, I have a new Mercedes pan without the tube that I picked up a long time ago. If you need it for your project, let me know. I could even be convinced to add the tube as I was planning on doing it anyway but I am stepping away from the slushbox for now.

i need your eyes!!
just another pic for a better visual if it helps
Guys i am reviving this thread once more!! i need your help in deciphering this part number. so i show 2 stamps of numbers which both make sense but some of the numbers i cant really say which is correct, and is this something that is normal having 2 stamps??
i am currently looking into replacing my pan since mine is warped and leaks as you can see on my tranny, i am also using a PAN starting with 960 serial from 928intl.
Thank you!

Hollisterkiid92 - it would also be very useful if you added the year and model of your 928 to your signature line.
If your car is an 84 USA S then the part number for the pan is probably 960 307 031 04. The only issue with used is that it may be also warped.

Roger that is correct it is an 84 928s, I never thought of my signature line. I shall apply that instantly!! Well at this point any pan is better than mine I lose a lot of oil if it just sits.

this definitely helped bud! i am going to be downloading the WSM here shortly.
James Bailey, would that be a issue that need to be addressed ASAP? i want to install my used pan to see if it keeps leaking first, i do show signs where the tranny kicks when it shifts so im not sure what that means.
