Default frost plugs?

Does the 928 block have frost plugs fitted? If so, would Porsche install block heaters when they were new for cars sold in the frozen North?

The block doesn't have any. The 32V heads do?

I was going to put a heater in the lower rad hose, but haven't gotten around to it, in place of the adapter below (with a barb welded on for the T-stat bypass, if it dyno's well). I would use the heater even during the spring/fall, because it takes forever to warm up the oil to temp.

BTW: the lower rad hose is 1.75" ID.

Block heaters and an old Chevelle? Malcolm, this last month of crappy weather has you starting to sound like a true Canadian.

The block heaters were part of the 4 wheel drive option package.

Frost plugs or freeze plugs were used as a way to get out the sand from the casting process and were never designed to save the block by popping out if the coolant were to freeze. The open deck of the 928 block easily lets the sand out so no need for such holes or plugs....

Quite true Jim but up here we pop one of those plugs out and insert a heater so we have half a chance our frozen trucks will start in the morning (the 928 is well tucked away).

BTW............thanks for your weather report:

Malcolm,

I drive my cars year round :P
Although it is colder there than it is here right now, I did drive one of mine upto Prince George BC and used it there for the winter even in the -45 + windchill. I just got a 150W halogen light, plugged it in and slid it under the car to keep the pan alittle warmer.
