Here's a picture from the WSM (pg. 03-3), looking at the (LHD) pass-side footwell with the EZK in the upper part of the picture. The connector would normally have a cover, and attaches to a funny-shaped slot in the sheet-metal EZK/LH bracket.

It sounds like that connector was added sometime during the '87 model run. It is also possible that it was added to the harness before the sheet-metal bracket was modified to mount it, and was just buried around or behind the CE panel. It is shown on the '87 wiring diagram, sheet-10 on the right side- "Tester plug".

The place to check would be pin-1 of the EZK connector, if there is a contact in that position then that wire goes to a diagnostic connector located somewhere.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the diagnostic connector on the 87 can be used with the Bosch Hammer (proper adapter) only caveat that the error must happen real time..eg. no memory to store a code, but will show the error code if driven and the error happens while the hammer is connected. Has anyone done this?

For the '88 (late '87's?) the diagnostic connector looks like this one. I've pulled mine from the brain area and just left it outside the carpet so I could do a quick connect with the hammer. Up until today this has worked perfect.

The '89's have it in the passenger side seat cover by the door. They are two different connectors. Both pictured below. '88 on the right, '89 plus on the left.

That would be cool if you could hook up someones 87 and run to see what the Hammer records.. I've always wondered if it would register a code. I think the manual states that the only diff between the 87 and 88 was stored memory of faults...not necessarily lack of ability to generate faults codes..

It didn't when we swapped the '87 brains from one of Rogers to my '88. Different part numbers for both the LH and the EZK. When I sent both EZK and LH to John Speak I put in the '87 brains and was not able to read anything on the hammer. They didn't have the diagnostic chips in them, was like my hammer was dead to them. Now I didn't run the diag in real time from the hammer, but in all reality, real time reading on the 9228 tool is not that great. EZK only on knock and load signals.

I'm looking forward to using the sharktuner.
