Default Back seat compartment

I was wondering, on some 928s the back seat has a compartment in the middle which you can lock. Mine doesnt (83s) was this an option, I think that most of the cars I have seen have got one of these compartments.

It was an option.

From one of Dwayne's recent purchases.

I've actually got a small kit I purchased at Target or someplace in there. Now that I think of it, I never actually opened and inventoried that kit so I should probably add that to to-do list.

Is the lock supposed to work with the ignition key or was there another key just for the compartment? I have the lock but the ignition key doesn't seem to fit.

If you can find a complete one no, it shouldn't be hard to fit. I've had the center section out of my 78 and it goes in and out fairly easily, the trick would be finding a complete one in the proper color.

There's supposed to be another key. Anybody have a source for those keys or key blanks? I checked with Porsche for one a while back, but they said that they couldn't find anything as far as either a cut key or blank for the lock in that location.

Dwayne's car was a tourist delivery in Germany of a USA legal car BUT to be legal in Germany it needed the first aid kit and road side reflector..... Since the car was special ordered by the first owner he deleted the sunroof and did not have the rear A/c which was normaly fitted to the USA cars of that period. Also explains the rather rare colors.

A good locksmith could probably figure it out. I rekeyed my drivers door and rear hatch myself, but that little lock on the lid does not look like it comes apart as easily. I know of a good locksmith locally, when I get a chance I'll get his opinion on cutting a key.

Mine hides a dual channle stereo amp wired into mono to power the 10" sub that guards the battery compartment.

Didn't know they had a rear cig lighter option.
