Default dumb wheel spacer question

Please forgive me, my computer is down so I am having difficulty searching. This is from my phone. I am installing snow tires on my 82, going from 8" DS90's with 225/50/R16's to 7" manhole covers with 215/55/R16's on the rears. The DS90's had spacers. Do the manhole covers need them? They look really far from the outer edge of the wheelwell.
TIA,

if you can put the spacer on its fine.
The reason the cars seemed to have sucked in rear wheels was because, early on Porsche designed the wheels in back to accept tire chains, with this in mind it deemed reasonable to move the rear wheels inwards so the chains wouldnt hit the rear fenders.
As you probably know narrow tires are best for winter driving, as they will make better traction than the wide summer tires, same goes for the front wheels on width

The front track is 61.10 the rear with out spacers is 60.20 inchs so the rear tires run in just about the same groove in the snow as the front...add two spacers and the first .90 inch puts the rears in the very same groove as the front. The ideal would be using two 12 mm spacers.
