Chitown to Orlando in our 84
My son Trevor and I are going to roll the dice and see if there's still some grand touring in our old bugger. We'll leave out of Libertyville, IL by 6:30 AM on the 27th and try to make it to Chattanooga or just over the Georgia border for bunking that night. Then we'll try to get on to Universal Studios for a few days thereafter.
The odometer on our car has never worked since we've owned it, but the PO (my father in law) drove it between Tucson and Fargo many a time. Thus, the old boy is no stranger to long distance travel. Hoping he'll still enjoy the miles. TB and all major mechanicals are in order (as of fifteen minutes ago - better go check again )
If any of you have route tips (I-65 or I-57?) or diner suggestions along the way, we'll be glad to hear them. We'll stay in touch with Rennlist.
Peace,
Tim (and Trev)

Good luck. I just moved from Chicago to Tampa. Made the drive on Moday. I took 1 down through IL to I believe 41. If you decide to try Tampa/ St. Petersburg let us know...esp if you need a place to stay...that is if you do not mind being surrounded by boxes!

Leave it to the people on this board to be so kind. Trevor and I made it to Orlando this evening. Traffic along I-75 was brutal today. The OB about overheated as we slogged through 30+ miles of slow n' go.
All systems (well, not the cruise control - no biggie) are fine with the car, except for the AC. When I turned the AC on, there was the typical hissing sound and the recirc flap closed accordingly. But the hissing never actually stopped like it usually does. It diminished, but persisted. I called Roger Tyson (who is always incredible gracious) and asked that I check that the AC clutch is engaging. It appears that it is, but I can't get too good a look with the belly pan still on. My guess is that we need a shot of R12 to get the system going. There are some bubbles in the window, so that might be the trouble. Not the end of the world.
The car performed great along the 70MPH zones. Any time a lunkhead hung in the left land doing 55MPH, we had some fun throwing the OB back into 4th gear and sprinting past. This car really does seem to be made for such a trip.
More to come. Thanks to all who've offered tips and commaraderie.

Glad you made it to Florida without incident. The weather is warmer than usual for the next couple of days. So you'll have a good dose of the Sunshine State to remember once your back home in ChiTown. How long are you here for? In the past, we've had welcome get togethers for visiting 928ers, might be able to coordinate another one if you're here thru this coming weekend?
