Default 928er Support Group......... "928 Anonymous"

928ers Anonymous

We all sit in a circle and say "My name is ????, and I'm a 928-O-holic"

Then tell our tale of 928 addiction to the group.....which somewhere in the story has a line like this...."I almost got out...I almost sold my 928 (for a horrendous loss)...but then this "great" deal came along and I had to buy it, plus these other two....then upgrades for #1 that I didn't sell since I felt bad, then #3 broke (insert your expensive choice here), then I had to hide #4 from the wife...since she still thinks there is only 3 (oops 2)....

then the truely addicted will say something like this:

I had a 928 and it ran very well.....but I thought I could make it better, so I started taking it apart....until I couldn't figure out how to put it back together....so I bought 2 more to "fix" the 1st one....not I can't tell how many I have since there are parts everywhere...

(who do we think the above story is?)

We try to talk ourselves out of 928's..... but always have the "answers we want to hear"

1: It costs to much to maintain........."not if I do the work myself"
2: 150k miles...thats worn out!!! "150K is nothing on a 928!, since I'll do the work myself "
3: There are cheaper-faster cars "but none look as good as the 928"
4: My friends ???? car is better "but its not a 928"

Bottom line.....we are all addicts.....and proud of it.....I still try to talk myself out of 928's.....but just can't do it....one look...one turn of the key....BWAAAHHH and I'm drug back in.....with my checkbook bleeding all the way.........

My name is Bob. I'm not an addict. I can quit anytime I want. The 928 is a great car, and inexpensive to own so long as I don't drive it too much. I do all the services on it myself.

Of course, I added a garage bay to the house to store and work on it, have a substantial tool collection to maintain it, and use time that's normally billed at several dollars a minute to maintain it and keep it pretty. All under the banner of "protecting my investment".

My name is Wade and I'm a 928aholic. Heck, I really don't want my car anymore. I want to sell it. But for some reason I can't post an add to sell it. I barely get to drive it anymore. I feel bad for it sitting in the garage most of the time. Yet, I still buy parts for it. I've got clear marker lights, new coilovers, analog clock, and more sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. Just to make her perfect. I've looked at other cars, but nothing is right. Why would I want something like a BMW M5? So what if I can put my kids in the back. A sedan? BORING! My 928 cheap to own because I hardly ever drive it. Why sell it? Right?

Please help me...

My name is Chris. I think I am a sharkaholic. I am.

I search for them. All over. Like the vapors that linger the next day in a bottle of mad dog 20/20. Especially red ones, neglectied, frowsy. Drag them home. Warm them in the basement. Rub their little fenders. Thrash them on the highway.....more later.

My name is Charley. I'm strictly a social Sharker.

I can can take'm or leave'm. At least that's what I told myself with the first one. I only bought the second one in case I was working on the first one when i had a pressing social engagement.

OK, the third one might raise an eyebrow, but it's just so I won't overuse the first two on the track.

I'm sure I'll quit before it causes any problems in my personal life. Of course now that the wife, kids and friends are no longer around, no one is telling me I have a problem. So who needs 'em, at least I still have my Sharks.

Did anyone see that 86.5 wide body on CL?

Hello, my name is Mike and this is my story of hopeless addiction.

At first there was one. Just one. It's Velvet Red, just what I've always dreamed of. If I get this one I'll be happy.

Ooh, what's this, a white one with a full red leather interior from Saudi Arabia. I know, I'll tell the wife it's for her. That's it. His and hers. Just two. It will be perfect.

Wait a minute. Look at this Murano Green one. I've never seen one like this before. What's one more, really. Just one more and I'll stop.

Uh oh. Look at this 90 GT. It's Marine Blue and what a deal. And we'll get to drive it across country to bring it home. Just this one more and that's it. I'll stop, no really, that's it. I'm done.

I've always thought yellow ones looked sweet.

My name is Greg and I am NOT a Sharkaholic.......
1. When I am behind the wheel I can see much better and things are a lot clearer.
2. When I am in my 928 I am a better driver and can drive very fast in a straight line (but curves are better)
3.I think of 928's always and am even thinking right now when I am going to go for a "drive"
4.I have no idea how much money I have spent on my 928 but if I stop now I will soon have enough saved up for a down payment on a house.
5.I have spent countless hours on Rennlist (even on holidays) and ignore family when I am on or pretend I can't hear them.
6. The longest I have gone W/ out driving my 928 is a week (when not working on it) and I got shakey after the third day so I sat in it for a while to calm down.
This is all healthy behavior and I call myself a "enthusiast" not an "addict."
I am now going out for a drive and hope to find more people like me.

Only one problem: its hard to be 'anonymous' in a 928...
especially with an rmb rumbling

Yeah I'm hooked too.

$2k for a year for maintenance? It can't possibly cost that much when you do it yourself. That's what I figured when I started visiting here.

Unless of course you end up replacing all the suspension - it after all is worn out - and pulling your motor for a headgasket after throwing another couple thousand at a C&R Rad, new fans, an extra timing belt job (the last one was only 1500 miles ago), Porken keeps making neato aftermarket stuff to update designs, ROG100 keeps posting irritating "deals" on parts, 928intl posts a 1/2 off sale on parts that are 4x more expensive than they should be, and Dave lets us all hang out at his house at SITM while we work over the 'help' like we're visiting a soup kitchen like we haven't been eating in weeks.

and I wouldn't trade someone straight up for a new cayman. Never. EVen with my motor on blocks and the car outside with a cover over it because the hood is off.

wheres my #$^%#$&%# credit card. I need to order more stuff.

Hello, my name is Richard and I own and drive a Porsche 928.

It's been 2 hours and 17 minutes since I last drove...Sorry had to go get milk and bread...oops I forgot to get bread, maybe it was intentional.

So, it's been only a few minutes since I last drove my 928 and I am still smiling.
