Ah, thread resurrection. And a good one.

Hi, my name is Mike.

I don't have a problem either, I got a car off of eBay 3 years ago with the intention of working on it in the garage for a year or so, getting it running well and then maybe selling it or something. Just a fun project to take up some time. Since then I have spent at least 5 times the initial purchase price modifying and restoring a car that already had 203k miles on it. It now has 218k miles on it, it's my daily driver and is without a doubt the most comfortable, most responsive, most well put-together car I've ever owned.

I can't imagine ever parting with it, mostly because I'll never be done making changes or fixing things on it. I drive it past the two closest train stations to one three towns away just so it will be properly warmed up each day.

I don't have a problem. I'm just fine. Can I sit down now?

Name is Andy and I'm a sharkoholic.

I've been driving myself crazy for a week trying to figure out a low idle after throwing $400 at a new MAF that still didn't cure it. I'm cowering in fear at the thought I may need a new/rebuilt LH to fix my problem. At the same time the car has a mind of its own and sometimes acts like nothing is wrong.

I'm thinking of getting another beater to replace the 928. A little Mercedes C230 (W202 chassis) and let the shark sit for the weekends now. Sell my car? I'd sell my soul before I sell my car.

Enough said.

Hi, my name is Paul. I have owned my 88 928 for 10 months now, of which I too purchased off of ebay. I have been infatuated with the 928 for over 20 years. I do not have a problem.

I have two other projects in my garage, both classic Mustangs, both unfinished. The Shark demands too much of my attention.

I can't help but stare at the rear end of the Shark and think..."damn thats a hot looking car!!!" I am possessed to drive it. It doesn't matter when either, morning, noon or night I will drive it and enjoy it. My other cars suffer, my truck and my wifes car hasn't been washed in months, the Shark gets washed twice a week. My wife gets mad when I see the Shark and all of a sudden say 'Damn that looks good!' She says thanks, and I reply no i wasnt talking about you, i was tallking about the Shark.

I browse the forums at work and at home, looking at pictures of other sharks.

In fact, Im gonna stop right now and go drive my Shark. I don't have a problem, everyone else does. AFter all, I only have one!

My name is Heinrich and I am no longer a 928-a-holic nor a Porsche-holic. I used to be, but at age 41 and having gone through a few things in life, it has become clear to me that there are more important things in our short life. But hell, I love driving the thing

Hi, my name is Charles. I am addicted to Megan Fox, she has a nice butt. Oops, replace Megan Fox with my Porsche 928, which still has a nice rear end!

Hi, I am James... I have spoken before, but I need to say again that I don't have a problem. I can stop whenever I want to...the urge just has not hit me yet...

Seven is a Holy number so that is why I have 7 928's! God wanted me to have these cars or would not have brought them in to my life! Also if I was not supposed to have 7 of them my wife would not be so patient and understanding. In fact 8 is my favorite number, so maybe I am destined to have 8...but 9 is a cool number too...hmmmmm

Also, I am just trying to help those of you who ARE addicted by providing a Limited Edition 928 wrist watch of 1st class quality, a 928 EVOLUTION DVD that is something no one has EVER done for these cars before, and I am suffering through taking THOUSANDS of photographs of BEAUTIFUL women with 928's just so I can create a calendar (or THREE) for you guys who DO have problems!

Thanks so much for letting me join you tonight for this meeting!

Default A Winning Addiction

My name is John and I have been looking for a winning addiction.
Its a bit of a curse knowing how to fix stuff so I'm stuck maintaining my own cars. Problem is most cars loose their value quickly and have a limited life cycle. Its always a loosing battle.

The biggest cost of ownership is depreciation. We work on cars that loose $2-3K of value per year (if you keep them for 10 years!) After 10 years of maintenance and depreciation a standard car is worthless. $30-40K down the toilet.

Then came my 928 - designed like an airplane, built like a commercial machine that drives like a race car.

The 928 is the best built car I've worked on to date. The best thing is that it doesn't depreciate any more. Hopefully in 5-7 years it will be restored - will be worth 1/2 of the money put in - then I can drive it for another 20 years (by then it will be worth what I have in it!) - no loosing battle.

If you're addicted to wrenching it might as well be worth it.

I talk to mine sometimes....

Ask it if it's thirsty, hungry....if it's still going out with that burgundy Jetta in the driveway.

Is that bad?

In answer to your question Andy--Yes, it is bad.

My name is Jim, and I am a sharkaholic.

I have found myself looking to "invest" in an industrial condo so that I can gain garage space so that my shark collection can expand from one to significantly more than one.

My tool collection has developed a distinctly metric cast to it....

I will buy any printed material that has 928 content in it

I own a copy of Banzai Runner (perhaps the crappiest movie ever made) just because of the 928 that is in it.

The top bookmarks on my browser are Rennlist and the 928 vendors

I view any coin that is not useful at a self service car wash as worthless and have a very large cabinet full of car cleaning products in the garage.

I used to try new waxes like my wife tries hair care products, always looking for the perfect product (settled on Gloss It two stage)

Default Transcript of my first Sharkaholics Anonymous meeting

Me: “Ummmm, Hi, my name is, ummmm Dan.... Dan H. I think I'm a Sharkaholic.”

All in chorus: “Welcome Dan!” (a large, less than attractive, bunch but nonetheless they had one thing in common, addiction of the highest order to 928’s)

Moderator: “Yes Dan, welcome!” “Don't be nervous, you're among friends here. Just say what you need to.”

Me: “It all started when I bought a well sorted 91 S4 and decided the reasonable original turquoise metallic paint on it wasn't good enough, so decided a simple repaint would suffice.”

Moderator: “That's okay Dan, many of us have had our cars repainted. Nothing wrong with wanting a nice paint job and the fact you were wise to buy a well sorted car is a good thing. See you're not as bad off as you think.”

Me: “Bu bu bu but then I decided a little later to enhance the car by, ummm, well you see, I, ummmm well...”

Moderator: “Just let it out brother, you’re among friends, we're here for you.”

Me: “I bought GTS rear quarters for it…. Is that bad?! “ (some shuffling in seats now)

Moderator: “Well, that is a substantial thing and expensive I am sure. It does verify you have Sharkaholic tendencies. Even so there are others here who have done similar and they have recovered. See, you’re not so bad off now.”

Me: “But wait there’s more!”

Moderator: More?

Me: “Th th then I decided the car would look better without the sunroof, so, ummm I had the body shop cut that out and I ordered up a sunroof delete.... “ (more stirring among the members)

Moderator: “Is that all?” (head cocked just slightly, left eybrow raised)

Me: “No, no, that is not all…”

Moderator: “Really?!” (some muffled whispering now between the SA members) “I can see your condition is a bit more advanced. Please everybody show some respect and empathy for Dan. Please Dan, carry on.”

Me: “Then I decided the flag mirrors would not look right with the GTS rear quarter panels so I ordered up the GTS aero mirrors….” (voice tailed off, eyes staring at shoes).

Moderator: “Okay Dan thank you for sharing. Everyone we can all agree Dan is a Sharkaholic. The first step to recovery is to admit and confess your addiction. Good job, you can sit down now.” (those with empty seats next to them became nervous)

Me: “Bu but t I’m not finished. (some gasps from the other Sharkaholics. Others whispered apprehensively “You’ve got to be kidding!”) I also decided the perfectly good all black interior just didn't look right, so I, well, ummm..... “

Moderator: “Go ahead Dan just say it!” (a bit exasperated and wanting this confession to end as it was clearly causing consternation among the other meeting participants)

Me: “I’ve decided to have Paul and Linda Champagne design and fabricate a beautiful all leather turquoise metallic and linen interior!” (more gasps and someone fell over in their chair. Another exclaimed “that’s whacked!” Some made for the door)

Moderator: “People, people, PEOPLE!” “ This is no way to act towards a new SA member. Yes, Dan seems to have some serious issues here but we are here to help and encourage and support. Please sit back down!” “I am sorry about that Dan, please sit down and know we are here for you.”

Me: “But I’m not finished. (speaking more quickly to get the full confession completed before the other members became too repulsed) I’ve decided to take my near perfect Cup II wheels and have them cut and widened.” (this time there were shouts of “Man that’s too much. I’m outta here before I relapse!”)

Moderator: “Surely that is all, isn’t it Dan?” (the indignation rising just ever so slightly)

Me: (hands on face hiding shame) “No, no it is not. I’ve also decided to have Doc Brown build a 6.5L stroker for the car…. I’m so ashamed!” (the other SA members began crawling over one another to get out less they to fall back into their squanderous ways. Dan buried his hung down shameful face into his hands)

Moderator: “Yes, you seem to be afflicted in a rather severe way.” (even she began back peddling towards the door). “Perhaps the capability of this group is less than your need. Might I suggest intensive psychiatric therapy.”

Me: (face in still in hands all alone in the room now) “But I haven’t even told you that I live in Hawaii where the maximum speed limit is 50 mph and all of the work is being done on the mainland and that I’ve only driven the car three times since this all started six months ago.” (distant lingering shriek from the last SA member to run down the hall).

Me: (taking hands from face, surprised and depressed to see all has left him) “The worst part of all of this is that my wife doesn’t know a thing about the existence of the 928 or what is being done to it….” “Bastards! I thought this would be the one place where I would fine others with empathy…”

All of the above is true....

Dan, the Reality is that we all have those same tendencies, some more and some less. Be glad you don't have to register with the local authorities, check in every time you have a sniff of fine leather interior or a hankering for a quick hit of Bwaaaaah out in public. I think you are correct in not revealing your problem to the wife and family right away. No good ever comes of that. So long as you can keep your habit down to the three drives a year, you might get by. More than that and it will undoubtedly be a problem. Oh, and don't bring your problem home, and try to explain it away like you are just rescueing a lost stray or something.

Good luck Dan! Chin up, chest out. It will all be OK if you can keep your habits under control. Remember you are among friends here!

Dan, Dan, Dan ... I don't know when I've read a sadder story.

So tell me about those wide Cup-II's! Who did them for you, and how did they come out?
Can you send some pic's? Must have, that is really so cool!

Me?? No, I don't have a problem, we've only got two 928's, hardly any at all. And besides, I can quit and get a life anytime I want, really...
