Default Wing mirror help

My 1983s wing mirror, flag type, when I fold it back towards the car window to stop it getting hit by traffic, it does not go all the way. The black plastic hits off the car door. The mirror is too low I think, the other side is fine and folds away no problem. Ive had the mirror off completely, removed the allen key bolt and tried to adjust so it folds higher but to no avail. Does any body know if there is something else I need to do.

Many thanks

That is how it is. The mirrors are positioned for the driver's vision, not folding functionality. The folding is mainly a break-away to improve accident survival.

Drivers side mirror should fold back all the way, passenger side shouldn't - applies equally to both LHD and RHD 928s.

There are 2 mirror housings 1 each for Right and Left side.
And 4 mirror mountings - RHD left and right and LHD left and right.
You could find a RHD right side (driver side) mirror mount and use it to replace your passenger (right side) mirror mount - then it would fold back but you may not be able to see anything useful through that mirror when driving.

Alternatively park with the passenger side to the kerb - solves the problem - on a two way road It's illegal here (OZ) to park any other way.

as far folding the mirrors goes try folding them forward then they will both be out of the way or rather flush with side of the car this goes for flags or GTS style

Ditto on folding them forward. That is why there is rubber there, and much easier to replace mirror glass than a painted mirror back. Just as they were designed from birth to do...

I guess that the engine assembly is for the car behind the one with the visible folded mirrors, Great picture
