I think this is correct. Car is stored for the winter now...
Thanks for the quick response - I'm off to work so I'll double check.

I did the Silver Star H3 70 watt too, I also have Silver Star in the head lamps.
Before I did, I tried 100 watt and my Fog Light relay started to fail on long drives, >30 min's. So I cleaned the contacts in the relay and replace the bulbs with the 70 watt silver stars and all is well.
Now looking for a bulb (or LED) to re-place the standard running lights next to the fogs, as they look yellow next to the silver Stars.

Monkeying with the design of the OEM lights will not achieve the results most wish. As Alan said, the (so-called) US conversion is not what true fogs are supposed to be. Fog lights are not white anyway, that would defeat the purpose of having them. They are amber which will still give you a good beam throw and contrast. So the term FOG LIGHT on the US cars is a loosely used term. Using white light just makes things worse...that's why hi beams (though located higher off the ground) never work.

If I remember this correctly, my "fog" units in the bumper are also daytime running lights wired through a relay on my GTS. There is a relay terminal that allows for this on the later cars. (I expect that you could wire something like this in on the earlier cars) They cancel if you flash the hi beams without the headlight switch on.

The clear "fogs" should probably be called driving lights. Driving lights are lower to the ground and throw a concentrated clear wide/longer/more intense beam for higher speed driving. They should not blind on coming traffic.

If all you are looking for is a whiter light, the bulb options out there these days will get the job done quite nicely. Personally, I wouldn't fool with HID for these, leave the HID's for the actual headlights. I used some very white light bulbs for the H5 headlights on my 85 and they are truly white. I can't remember what brand they are, but the results are modern day short of HID's.

If you look at a true ROW set up, you will see they are different to what the US cars have...especially the earlier cars. If that is what you are shooting for, look online overseas and see if you can pick up a set of ROW lights. 928 631 407 00 and 928 631 408 00 for S4's to 1993.

Incidentally, the front marker lights on the early cars (which take the place of the ROW true fog lights) work great with blue (yes blue) bulbs. They appear as a nice white as you would see with an LED....or you could just use an LED cluster unit.

Hi,

I did the euro conversion (replacing the running lights w/ the Euro spec lights) some years ago. You also have to change the surrounding bezel and upgrade the wiring it gives the front a fresher look.

I started to melt my Euro Fogs when I put in 100Watt bulbs. Running 100 watts in the Euro driving lights is no problem and a big improvement.
