Garmin Nuvi 200W $119.99
Hi all,
Just received this offer thru my email and thought I'd pass along. Westmarine.com has the Nuvi 200W for $119. Looks like a good price for a base unit.
Have a great weekend!

Make sure it speaks the STREET NAME instead of just saying turn left..turn right etc etc. Makes a huge difference in navigating from behind the wheel.

Here is the link to the ad on the West Marine website, same $119 price thru Dec-1: http://www.westmarine.com
We've got the Garmin 250W and have been happy with it. Basically the higher the model#, the more features and the higher the price. The "W" models have the 4.3" wide screen, runs for a few hours on its internal battery or you can get a 12v adaptor (we added an outlet at the back of the pass-side parcel-shelf for it). The 200W includes maps for the lower-48 but not Canada, audio directions but not spoken street-names, etc. The 250W adds Canada maps which we wanted. Easy to use and works fine.
For a Garmin model comparison go to https://buy.garmin.com/shop/category...e?locale=en_US
My only complaint with all of these guys is that there is no simple way to plan a route with Google Maps and then send it to the Garmin. It seems like they go out of their way to avoid compatibility.

I have the GMN 250w. It's very nice (wider screen is worth the extra money).
Going to install it permanently in the wife’s S8 center vent panel.
Great database for the money. Movable map for scrollinmg around. When you brose through the destinations, it gives you the phone #'s of the commercial destinations as well. Very handy!
Cheers,
Michael

I think the 200W is the 200 with a wider display screen (hence the 'W'). I just got back from Wal-Mart where the 200 is selliing for $97. Got it for my daughter who is in the habit of calling her mom or me for directions while driving.

We usually leave the audio turned off unless we're driving alone, in which case I would agree completely-- the spoken street-names would be very handy.

Oh, but that's the FUN part! I change the language every so often. My fave is Swedish - "....hafoon gaboony foegley ooopsah badeengah....." Makes me smile.

I've been looking at GPS units also for my wife. Garmin Nuvi 760 can be had at Walmart for $250 or here http://www.techondigital.com/product...ductid=nuvi760 cheaper.
Great reviews, may go with the 765T as it has lane assist an lifetime traffic service.

The top speed on my Garmin Nuvi 200 was 92.8mph for a while.
(Er, it was on a private course. Yeah, that's it)
It estimates the current speed from the location data. So it's an averaged current speed.
But worked great when I killed my dash lights and needed to know how slow I needed to go
to not get a ticket at night.

Hey Andy,
I use the Garmin 200W, it works great, will read tenths to 99.9mph then goes up in 1mph increments. Gives you MPH, Max Speed, Overall average and Moving average, Moving & stopped time as well as an odometer. The touch screen is also a nice feature and allows you to reset it with gloves on George snapped this photo just as we headed back to Ely, NV after the NORC in May. The 200W will not give you street names, just left/right I mounted mine in the center vent and used a RAM Mount, when I'm not racing I leave the mount ball and can reinstall the center vent.

I was researching them earlier this year (July), and the Garmin 255W had all the basic features I wanted. However, at the same time I found a Garmin 750 with all the bells and whistles (street name, where am I, nearest hospital/police, FM transmitter, etc) at Sam's Club for $50 bucks less. So, if you have a Sam's/Costco/etc, be sure and check them out.
I love mine, even use it when I know where I'm going.
EDIT: Just checked the Sam's Club website. They have the Garmin 750 for $198.76. Bear in mind I paid $296 back in July.
One of the cool things I like on mine is the speed limit display. On my end of summer trip to Florida, it was nice knowing what the speed limit was on those unfamiliar roads.

As far as the speedometer function I use the GPS, it's very accurate. Our tech speed was 165 in May, George and I ran the speed trap at 163 indicated on the GPS and the radar trap backed it up.

Kind of a large download 49mb's but you can just see the mph on the 200W change as I run the Narrows at the Silver State Classic in Sept. I use the Nuvi 660W in my truck, has blue tooth and some other additional features.

suction cup mount heat warning
If you leave the suction cup mount on the glass, the heat may weld it to your windshield, requiring lengthy and perhaps messy razor blade removal. Always take it off when you get out of the car. It doesn't have to be real hot out, just sunny (for me it was only about 70 degrees out (so I thought I was safe), buuuuuuut blazing sunshine). I had read about the problem on amazon's reviews, but figured that I was safe because 'it wasn't that hot yet'. Nope. BTW, I have the nuvi 660, great nav, but overkill because turns out I can see a smaller unit (friend has a 350) just fine. Try to borrow one to see which one you need; it makes a difference in the size and weight you're putting into your pocket. Perhaps not much of a problem for us huge folks, but something to think about anyway for the normal and smaller people.
