I have replaced all 4 shocks on an S4 (including swapping hardware across shocks) in 4 hours. The owner of the car rented a garage with a 2 post hoist. I did most of the work myself and he helped as much as he could with getting the tires off etc.

I have also swapped all 4 shocks in my garage without having to swap the hardware (preassembled) in just under 4 hours.

So if you have an impact gun and some other good tools, and have done it before then it can be done VERY quickly.
For the front suspension I always split the upper a arm from the hub and dont disassemble the front suspension any further.

I have a rebuild of my Bilstein option 474 "sport shocks" on my to-do list ... what's the consensus, would I like these Boge/Sachs shocks just as well (the rebuild fee is $65 ea plus shipping back and forth). I'm a cruiser, just looking for the 'ideal ride/handling balance' choice.

If I went with the new Boge/Sachs, would it be easy to find a new home for the Bilsteins? Are there any different parts/compatabilities to worry about?

Part of me wants to keep the car all original, but for roughly the same money and no hassle this seems like a nice alternative ...

The Boges are a far better ride than the harder and stiffer Bilsteins IMOO.
Now if you like going round corners very fast and do track work the Bilsteins would be better.
