Are shocks a function of mileage or age on these cars? With 30K the car sticks really well but feels a little bouncy.

Bouncy usually means the shocks are toast.

Even on a low mileage vehicle, once the seals start to go its all down hill from there. It just takes time. When I "tested" my old shocks on my work bench, I though they felt pretty good and I would see no improvement in handling and ride. I was wrong. The shocks have now replaced my X-pipe as the best money I have spent on the car so far.

age and mileage are factors.

I think after 10 years regardless of mileage a car would benefit from a swap.

a one year old car with 60-70K miles could probably also use a swap

A 20 year old car with only 50K miles, could really use a swap

Shipping to the UK is $100 as some are already on the way there.
They are good 78 through 95.

Well if you dont have them then you cant have them rebuilt

Bilstein rebuilds them, i think they are a bit more then $50 per shock though. One bonus is that you can have them valved to your liking in the rare case that you know how to set up a car better then they would.

Hey Roger,
my car is in storage so I can't check, but wondering if you knew if Ed ever replaced the shocks on mine. If not, with 63k, is it time?

Hi Eric,
I think the shocks are original IIRC.
Seemed to run good when it was here.
Your call really.

I am at not home and I do not have the WSM with me... can someone provide me with some general info please?

Is replacing the front and rear shocks on my 84 928 a one-person job? How long does such a job take to replace all 4 shocks? Any special tools required?

Figure at the least 2 hours per shock. You will need some spring compressors and it does make it easier if there are 2 people.

Shop book time for all 4 is 10 hours....by a "professional" with a lift, air tools, spring compressor etc. plus the car will need an alignment after it has had the suspension apart....I have done it on the ground , in my driveway , at home and it took a bit longer
