Default Top Ten 300 hp cars for under $10k

1988 Porsche 928 S4, 315 horsepower, $9450 (fair condition)

As beautiful and high performance a car as any on this list, the stellar 928 also offers more in the way of badge cachet as well. You’ll have to search more in the “fixer-upper” segment of the market to keep the price below the $10K cutoff, but you’ll still be spending half as much as you’d need for a 911 of the same era.

I love the 850i. The XJR would be fun to play with also....

850i? As if our 928's didn't already have a bit of unwanted flab around the mid-section...

I have always wanted to do a turbo conversion on an I6 XJR. Those cars go for cheap if you can find one.

True enough, but the 8 series was the 928 of the BMW world.

Luxurious, fast, beautiful lines, heavy and maintenance-intensive.

Maybe explains why I've always like the 8 - a lot.

BMW 850's are cool looking but I can remember being unimpressed with the way it drove.

I talked with a guy from Autoblog and he said there is a 928 participating in the 24 hours of lemons soon. They are taking it apart now.

"...stellar 928..." Nice! The author, Seyth Miersma, was the guy who drove Bigmac's car for the Winding Road article: http://www.nextautos.com/news/2008/0...porsche-928-s4

Yea, me too! Some neighbors just finished running that race in Houston w/ an old Audi. They had a GREAT TIME and are already looking forward to doing it again next year! I would LOVE to run it with a 928, but can't imagine you could actually do it and be within the limit of the rules!

Me too! I REALLY do love the 8 series BMW. I have only driven one once and found its a car for cruisin and not performance in its stock condition. Good enough for me! I already have performance cars. This car is a poser with NO disrespect intended! I may be corrected and I will gladly take it on the chin. However, every time I see one, I want one. It has a timeless look to it and boy what I could do with modifying one of THOSE things! Someday...

Not to hijack a thread......

I paid $300 for this one - NEW fuel pump already installed, interior (if you could call it that) full of asst parts! The car runs.... with plenty of off shift work, and about $70 in parts, not to include the tires - which aren't counted against the $500! So.....
It is a possibility... Just sayin

The headlights are worth this car's purchase price.
