Interesting, I've heard about those restrictions before.

In this case he would be driving with the proper wheels. It would be up to the TÜV to know if the calipers were correct for that year.

I drive my 86´5 with GTS Cup 2 wheels.I drive to TÜV,show my car to the inspector with official papers from porsche for the wheels. He says ok and I pay 100 €.
Then I drive to cityhall and the assistant print the wheels in my carpapers-another 50 €.

All changes to the body without a permission from the manufactury and Tüv must be inspected.(Brakes, wheels, springs aerokits and so on)

It´s the german way of life! ;-) But you can drive the porsche with vmax on autobahn!!:-)

I wish we had inspections like that in the US. There are a lot of cars on the road that are dangerous at any speed (I'm not just talking about 911's either).

LOL!!
The inspector looks at rust on the structure of the body. Are the parts like swiss cheese you must repair the structure or the car goes in the trashcan.
no safety-no TÜV

thanks. just choked on my bagle. I need to stop reading rl w/anything in my mouth... err, yiikes that sounds bad....

stickers are dangerous. I was going to put a sticker on the family car - my kid had to go to summer school. guess the threat worked. now he's getting a's again. apparently, just the threat of stickers can be very powerful.

everyone can check the next inspection on the license plate of your car. It´s a round sticker with an unique colour for every year.in the mid the year and on top the month of next inspection.

Driving without Tüv is good for collecting points!;-)

I couldn't agree more. It's insane not to have any type of mandatory mechanical inpsections for cars in North America. To me, having yearly inspecions are a lot more logical than emissions inspections.

Mmmmm...let's talk about hot dogs (since this thread lost sight of the original topic)

Back on topic though, I agree that the sticker should remain on a 78 928 or, on the window of another vehicle like my F150. I have several stickers on the back window stating RENNLIST, SOCAL928, 928 INT'L 928 OC and best of all PORSCHE SUPPORT VEHICLE in big letters. I think this sticker would find a nice home amongst these other ones.

I'll get a sticker and put it on my toolbox. It's a 2002 Husky.

I like it. Considering the amazing variety of obscure comments and questions I get asked regularly about my car...like, "was it made by Porsche?" or "my dad's friend had one and said it was slow but handled great." or my favorite, "how much you pay for it?" meaning: "what it'd cost me to have one of them super cars?" So for the sake of the curious and unknowing public...I like it. It adds credence to my testimony to them that the 928 is indeed the best kept secret in the automobile industry.

I think it should be on a 78 or 79 but no others.

The "essential" bit was tongue-in-cheek. Some people took the bait

It is a nice sticker and on my race car it replaced the original Porsche Katalysator one since my car does not have cats anymore...

hi there, just in case you're serious, the sticker is a reverse cling type, so won't go on a toolbox or helmet, only a window.

When I have sold enough to cover the costs of printing, I'll do a non-reverse type design suitable for toolboxes etc.

Land speed record one is in the works!

Joel
