Default exhausts and x pipes etc

So on the 88s4 the factory engine pipes are not headers/extractors as such and are just a manifold ....please correct me as it is a question rather than a statement. Having said this "bang for buck" wise, what is the best road to go down. I understand roger does a "X" pipe which i saw from a recent post. But that it only fits their engine pipes. I dont want to spend a fortune and the ozzy $ is getting flogged but what are the alternatives. Ozzy forum users please input as i have no idea what is available in Australia.

Nothing available here in Oz as far as I am aware unless you make your own like I did. How are you?

Rogers X (more accurately SLC Motorsports Utah X or somefing like that) is a direct bolt on between the factory exhaust manifolds and the middle section of the factory exhaust. I'm sure Roger will chime in but shipping may be an issue because if size unless he has now solved that problem. If you need cats on your car you will also need to get cats to go between the cut down X and the middle section of the exhaust, Cats are probably also available to suit from Roger.

Heh Greg made a mighty impressive set of headers.. and the rest.. seen in this thread here

For power improving exhausts you're pretty much stuck rolling your own or importing. For noise, there's a few people in Oz selling rear pipes that delete the muffler, but they just add more meat to the sound, not the accelerator.

Aren't OZ pipes different because of right hand drive?

Perhaps the Magnaflow universal X mated up by your local muffler shop? I went with a universal X on my MSDS header and it works great.

About $70US and very light so shipping shouldn't kill you.

we welded a X ourself and connecting the MSDS headers from 928M...

Carl send me the "wrong" type , it is the later 32V type with 3 boltholes per cilinder. But they match after cutting away some flanges material and redrill / adjust the 2 holes per cilinder ... They clear everything fine !

Left Hand Drive headers/extractors (non factory) need one or two of the pipes modified to fit on a RHD car. They don't mate up with the factory front exhaust section.

The X pipe that Roger sells is a drop in replacement for the front section of the factory exhaust and retains the factory exhaust manifold.

Correct, but they are pretty good manifolds. % gain for headers on a 79-84 will be much greater than an 88. There are HP gains to be had on an S4 when adding headers, but just not as impressive as other years, or other makes and models.

Just repeating what I read hear a number of years ago.

Yeah, we only have the website to keep the name. We are too busy to get it working and populate it again. We let our great resellers get the word out, they do a much better job of it.
