crank position sensor failure?

No, I had already tried that with no change at all, in fact I had already boxed it up to send it back to him and asked him last night if I could keep it around for a few days in case I thought of any other reason to try it again...
Wish I could be that prescient with the lottery numbers!

The reason I went poking around with the crank position sensor in the first place was I thought it might be misreporting my rpm's and thus the ISV is being told to open more than it really needs to be. Probably not the cause but I'm running out of ghosts to chase.
When I first repaired the position sensor connector and took that ride it seemed to be a bit of an improvement but the car died before I could really be sure. The test run after putting Tims LH back in tonight was too short to know, the car barely warmed up before I parked it again.

My idle is at 900 except when starting up with a cold engine then at first it's about 400, barely turning over then it shoots up to 1200, back down to 400...back up to 1200.... once it warms up it's steady 900. I think I'll just pull the ISV connector off again and let it run that way, it seems to drop it about 200 rpm's when I do that so it should be about perfect.

I thought your idle was much higher than 900 after warm up, like 1100 or 1200?

I managed to get it down to average 900 (fluctuates give or take 50) by completely backing the throttle stop out and removing and reinstalling the air guide/cowl to look for any tears or holes and having the MAF sensor rebuilt. Not sure which of those was the help or if they all had a part in it because they happened at the same time. Before doing that it would try to stay around 1000 except after driving it for over 30 minutes and then it liked to be at 1200.

I still need to take another long run to be sure it won't hit above 1000 after the engine is fully heat soaked but I think my new peak idle is 900. If that proves to be true then I guess I'll just pull the plug on the ISV and see if it doesn't still drop the 200 rpm's it used to drop when doing that....

I didn't realize we had a throttle stop adjustment. I guess I was not paying attention when throttle body was out.
Can you adjust the throttle stop with the intake on? Every time I have looked at my throttle plate it looks completely closed at idle.

You can, it has a lock nut that a 1/4" drive ratchet with an extension with a universal joint on the end will hit pretty easily to loosen it. To turn the screw out is a little harder. I haven't tried to tighten it back up though and I bet it is going to be a touch harder to do but possible. You have to remove the MAF sensor, the stop is on the passenger side inside and below the throttle linkage.

I think I may be removing my intake today because unplugging the ISV only dropped the idle another 50 rpm's last night so I'm still a little high.
