Just curious what other 85/86 owners do to replace their pads.... According to the searches I've done it appears the pads cannot be replaced. I have 126K on my 86.5 and am getting ready for a cam cover seal replacement. I was going to do the tension pads while I was in there but they are no longer available. What type of preventative maintenance can be done on the early 32v motors?

I have disassembled a few 32 valve engines and the ones that were over 100k had chains that were loose fitting on the cam teeth, the real test is if the chain fits to its sprocket , if its tight then all is good if its somewhat loose then it will wear the teeth moreso than a new chain would.
In a perfect world with a worn chain and worn sprockerts you should replace the cams also

OK, reading this has me thinking that it is time to open up the cam covers, at 175K miles on my MY85. Need to replace timing belt this winter anyway. I have searched the topic and see that there may be an issue with new tensioners on my MY, that the bolt and tube are different. Also, I haven't found if anyone has done a complete write up on changing either the pads, tensioner or chains. Guess I have to open up the WSM.
My first preference would be to just replace the pads. I searched thorugh previous posts and couldn't find, a complete list of part numbers posted by someone for any of the following:
1. New tensioners (bank 1-4 and 5-8)
2. New banjo bolts needed for MY85
3. New J tubes needed for MY85
4. Tensioner pads (if just replacing the pads)
Does anyone have the part numbers foir these?
Also have to keep fingers crossed when removing the cam covers that none of the 2 piece cover bolts break off.
Thanks
