I'm in the middle of replacing my dash lightbulbs.
A few of the digital dash bulbs are out and I thought about replacing them with LEDs. The problem is the base doesn't support doing it.
As you can see in the image below, there are two copper wire leads that are soldered onto the metal tabs.
Does anyone know what base this is and where I can get on compatible with LEDs?

Will you lose your ability to dim the dash if you put LEDs into those sockets?
Frankly, I was considering running fiber optic cable to those holes (and signal wires down from those holes) so that I could place lights in a more accessable location instead of having to pull the dash pod just to replace a bulb.
Just a thought.

I'm surprised you didn't search first or just PM me.
ALSO: I noticed in my original post, that I did not mention the #74 wedge base bulbs are available in the proper holders. http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/B8.htm
ADDITIONALY, LCD and LED do not mix very well. You will see in my post that I had tried this and the best thing to do is go to a VW shop and get the 2w green base (?) bulbs. They will make the warning display much brighter and not wash it all out like the LED will for this application. Stick with the 1.5w for the amber display in this area.
