Auto transmission rev limiter at upshift.
Hard to explain this one so bear with me. If I drive my car hard it upshifts normally near the rev limit - transmission and torque converter recently rebuilt, fluid levels good etc etc. However, if I flick my kick down override switch, or keep WOT engaging kickdown every so often the box doesn't change up quick enough and bounces of the rev limit till i back the throttle of a touch when it changes normally - usually 2/3 change up.
Any ideas?

probably the kick down relay is failing - replace it with another.
The kick down relay dropping out is what causes the WOT near RPM limit gear change - if it doesn't activate you hit the rev limiter and potentially overstress the trans...
Does your tachometer work OK... this is how the KD relay knows the engine rpms...

Thanks all, sterling service as usual. Hi Aryan, looks like fate has sort of decreed that I hang on it - plenty of interest, but no firm sale. The more I've thought about it the more i've thought i'd probably regret selling it so i've decided on the ultimate upgrade.......i'm buying a new house with a double garage so i can at least work on the car in comfort till the kids are old enough to sit in the rear. Funny thing is my better half has not even raised an eyebrow at this upgrade!
