Default S2 quarter window sidespoilers

The front fixing of one of my S2 rear sidespoilers has turned to rust

Can someone explain how the middle and front fixings can be seperated to remove the whole thing ?

The rearmost fixing is plain to see, just inside the trunk, but how are the other two fixings supposed to come apart ? (other than rust !)

Pictures would be great !

Yes, I did a search.......

There is about inch long strip on metal welded to body which is inside side piece. Small screw goes through that metal strip and holds spoiler in place together with window seal.

Thanks Erkka, is that the same for the middle fixing as well ? Are the screws accessed by folding back the spoiler rubber from the outside ?

IIRR there is very small round hole at the back of the side pieces. Center section has screws inside the hatch.

John to remove the spolier from the car there are 3 fixing positions you will need to lift the outer edge ( where the spoiler meets the body) to find them (2 OF them) the front one is about 2 inches from the front edge and the then there is aone one in about 8 inches or so from the front, each of the holders have a philips screw holding them to the body clamps. Then there is the rear most that you have already found.

For the removal of the body securing brackets they are removed from under inside the fenderwell. (you need to look inside the fender) , ( it will be easier if you remove the wheel)there are screws that attach the 2 metal brackets to the body then the spoiler is screwed to these use some PB blaster to get things loose.

Thanks very much ! That's what I needed to know. The rubber seems very stiff, but will investigate later today

the rubber is stiff and you will need to pry the spoiler material out to see the screws a small hook would help or an extra set of hands, it will become obvious once you find the the part that peels back

Thanks Stan for your interest and advice, it is appreciated.

I had a look at the side spoiler this afternoon. It is easy to find where the middle fixing is as the rubber of the spoiler is thinned down considerably in that place. A bit of finger prodding and the exact place is located, and bend up reasonably easilly. The screw came out easily. Then I removed the easy rear fixing and off it came.

Now the bad news The front mount is a bracket welded to the body. This has rusted away on the bend where it changes from the horizontal to the vertical. So I guess I need to try and fabricate a new bracket and bolt it to the car with some new tapped holes.

As you said, the middle fixing bracket is bolted to the car body. A pity they didn't do that with the front mounting !

Hi Stan
Yes, I had a look at PET, but certainly others have found the front bracket as a welded bracket, another Euro S2. I have also seen mention on RL of the front bracket being welded.

Not sure which MY they changed from 2 x bolted brackets ? Have you seen a car with 2 x bolted brackets ?
