Got the opportunity to complete the re-assembly, and took the car for a spin.
Engaging the clutch is smooth and easy. No signs of shuddering, vibrations or anything alike. Cheap and relatively easy fix.
It should be said, that the job is easier to do when the motor is lowered beyond the normal position. Obviously so. Since I was going through the final stages of the Motor Mount job, and the crossmemeber was still out, it was convenient to lower the motor a bit more than normal.

Actually there has been "northern lights", not out, but in ! A remarkable lightshow under the hood from a worn out ignition harness.
I did replace the entire ignition harness, the plugs, the rotors and the distributors and achieved a remarkable difference. Prior to the replacement, the car was running rough when cold, and surged when I gave it a jab on the throttle.
Now it is running smooth, cold as well as warm.

NOAA says that they will extend well below 60*N later this month. BTW, I did say take a drive. Looks like they will cover down near Stockholm soon. Need to be way away from the city to enjoy. One thing I miss living in TX.

We may be drifting slightly from the inital theme of this thread, but yes it is something to miss.
I use to live in Greenland for 3 years, and during winter You could see the Northern lights. It is an awesome sight, and on a clear night it is breathtaking to see the play.
During summer You couldn't see the Northern lights. All You could see was light, period. Also during the night.

thanks for the info, yes Northern light has been visible as far down as Stockholm region on a few rare occasions.
And you are right, need to get out of the city and the streetlights to fully enjoy.

Hi Garth,
I read your ball stud update note with interest. I too have a 1980 928 about to go into a garage to have the clutch done. I've ordered the parts (pressure plate, two discs, release bearing, pilot bearing). I'm not sure yet whether I have the later arm and ball stud. I think I need these though to fit the release bearing as it has the rubber side sections. Two questions:
1. Is this an important upgrade? I'm worried that the workshop will fob me off and simply cut off the side rubber pads on the release bearing to fit it and get the job completed...
2. My parts supplier sent two identical clutch discs, I queried this, but they explained that because the surface compound was updated that this is correct. Are they right?
Any help greatly appreciated!
