Brake Pad Sensor
Hey guys.
I am putting in a brake pad sensor on the drivers front on the 84'.
Currently there is none there!!!
It may become obvious when I get in there, but how does the sensor go on?
Does it snap into place?
Is there a groove for it inside the caliper?
Also I seem to recall the torque for the lugs at 93 ft pounds?
Is that right?
Any info I can get before taking the wheel off and replacing it would be great!!!
Thanks!

Sensor "should" snap in place, but be careful...easier said than done. It is offset so the most of the sensor goes towards the pad surface. Just gently work the sensor down onto the pad plate. Zip tie the wire to the brake line after the pad and sensor are seated back into the caliper.

The wheel lug nuts should be torqued to 130 Nm.

Is the space where they snap in something I can see while looking into the caliper?
Which side of the caliper does it slide into, side closer to the engine or side closer to the tire?

It depends on the front or rear calipers; on the 88 MY there's 2 sensors per caliper on the front so the sensors are fitted to both pads but only one on the rear which is fitted to the inner brake pad.

OK, thanks I see how they go in now.
But I have another PO special "fix".
It seems the PO snipped the male connector of the
lead that plugs into the actual sensor
I am left with 2 bare wires..............I am guessing there
should be a 2 pole male connector that plugs into the sensor here.
So what next?
Anybody have this little connector lying around in their tool chest they would care to sell to me?
Guessing the local auto parts stores will have nothing.
What do you guys suggest?

Real nice that you can pull the car into the living room and prop it up on the couch. I'd be shot for that!
You're just gonna have to find someone who has a parts car that can snip the harness side with about 6 inches or so so you can splice. OR, you are left with a direct splice and cutting the plug end off the sensor. It's just a looped wire, so there is no proper wire to wire connection. Actually, you can splice it directly in now and the next time you do the job, make the fix.

Yeah, I was hoping someone with a parts car would chime in...........or maybe have an extra part in the "parts box" from left overs
Worst case is to splice into the new sensor, call me stubborn but I hate to take a brand new part and tear the connector off!!
Parts car folks...................are you out there?

84 US? We probably have that little bit....let Kevin take a look tomorrow. He's got a monster pile of parts to dig through on the floor down there, might take a while. But, among the 3 or 4 wiring harnesses there should be at least one brake light sensor plug for you. Kevin will PM you sometime around lunchtime'ish, ok?

I check my brake pads often enough (and change them) that I wish I didn't have the pad wear sensors. Sometimes those buggers fight me when it is time for them to come out.
I have my 2 front wear sensors ziptied out of the way so my brake swap jobs stay under 5 minutes each corner.
If you want to do the job right, do the job right. If you don't need the sensor, you can strip and twist the two wires together then tie out of the way. Do what is right for you and your needs & desires.
Good luck with that!
