Default Winter storage time - anyone use a car capsule?

OK...somebody has to be the first to mention winter storage

I picked up another 928 this summer for which I have no room so I've been renting some storage space. I have a good cover but am concerned about rodents over the winter so I am contemplating a car capsule. Anyone use one of these?

I've also considered a car bag/jacket but they are about as much money.

Also...I'm looking for a cover to fit an S4. If you have one you are wanting to get rid of please let me know.

I have several car capsules I picked up used locally. They come in 16 and 18 feet. It is a great product for long term storage. I would use a cover on the car also. The material is heavy and you have to drag it across the paint so it can be positioned to be zippered up and then you need to run power to the blower which runs continuously. I used one on my turbo last winter. When I removed it 4 months later it was like it was just put away. Clean and free of spiderwebs and no chance any rodents can get to it.

Down side is these things are big. Figure an 18' unit will expand to 20+ feet and stick out about 2 feet on either side of the car and nearly 6 feet high.

Anthony, do these capsules include anything to control humidity? I always wondered what would happen if humid air was constantly being pumped in, would it dissipate or build up? Do the filters include dessicants?

I've toyed with getting one also but I just never could be sure on the humidity issue.

Guy who put his car in my barn a couple of years, used a car bag..... covered the csr first with a couple of covers. Zipped the bag up. Seemed to work VERY well, no dust, rodents etc.

My only caution is that with ANY gas in the tank, you may get an accumulation of vapors over time. When we opened up the bag, the car smelled like stale gasoline for a bit. I would imaging the odor dissapated after a while. He did not seem to complain about it.

We don't have to store our cars here in Texas...in fact some of the best driving days of the year happen between mid Oct and late March!

Hi Jeremy,

I used a car capsule for a few years and it was great. No worries about broom handles etc falling over and hitting the side of the 928. Also due to the continuing air flow if seemed to keep the car drier in the muggy climates.

I am glad you brought this up because I had forgotten I have one, gonna have to go find it now.

Thanks for the info guys. Believe it or not it looks like Automotion is the cheapest source (unless one of our sponsors sells it and I don't know). Will the 16' version work or do I need the 18'?

David - If you run across yours and decide that you don't need it anymore let me know and thanks for the 411.

As others said. I found it kept the car drier in the bag. You can always add a descant if you like, they sell tubs at HD. I found I did not need it and my car came out smelling fresher than if it just sat with a cover.

Because of the large size expanded go with the smallest bag you can. I have not tried the 16 but the 18 was humongous on my turbo probably could get away with a 14 for a 964 but the 928 is considerably larger. I would measure but I think you can get away with a 16.
