An Austrian politician just died in a high speed crash with his brand new VW Phaeton - going more than twice the speed limit and hitting a hydrant and a concrete pole, before rolling a few times. Pictures of the scene were all over the web - just look for "Jörg Haider Unfall"...

The human body can only take so much deceleration before blood vessels start tearing - which is particularly dangerous in the brain. Once you are past that, it's hard to survive. But even while you are under that limit, you need to be restrained somewhat softly and have enough survival space. Once you hit anythint in the car, you get other injuries that could take you out.

When I was in the rollover in a 911 SC, the roof collapsed on my side, and I had some wound on my head that needed stitches. I could not turn my head for two weeks because of the forces my neck had been exposed to. My left knee hit the radio and knocked out some of its buttons, and my lower left arm hit who knows what. The forces are beyond anything we can imagine - but because they only apply for miliseconds, we often don't realize after the acciddent that we were actually subjected to them.

I wouldn't use the term 'cool' to describe it.

Perhaps 'tragic' would be more appropriate.
